 hi  all

let  me  describe   my  problem   6  months  back  i  bought  a  small  boyu  tank  (MR-418)(10  gal)  and  also  got  4  oscar  and  2  dollar  as  free  after  4  months  of  time  now  they  become  almost  5  to  4  inch  big  this  tank  is  real  small  for  them  so  i  want  to  go  for  a  bigger  tank  ..As  previously  i  dont  have  any  knowledge  about  fish  keeping  am  bit  confused  now......guys  please  suggest  me  a  good  aquarium  set  up  for  oscars  ...my  budget   is  bit  low   dnt  have  much  money  ...Sad  like  not  more  than  15000  so  i  cant  go  for  a  imported   branded  aquarium  ....so  please  please  suggest  me  ...because  i  love  my  Oscars   and  don't  want  to  make  them  sad  or  unhealthy

 suggestion,,,needed  on

tank  -  a  minimum  size  for  3  medium  grown  Oscars  and  2  dollar   (L_xW_xH_)  cost=?  also  let  me  know  the  ideal  size  and  its  cost.
good  filter  -  external  will  be  preferable  cost  =?
lights  -  i  like  blue  and  white  lights  cost=  ?
 air-pump  -  good  air  pump  cost=?
 water  heater  -  cost  ?
Decoration  -  a  brief  description  of  an  ideal  oscar  tank  from  decoration  prospective  will  be  highly  appreciable.

please  let  me  know  the  costing  of  all  products  separately  so  that  i  can  go  to  lfs  and  understand  the  pricing  because  i  find  Bangalore  is  much  costlier  than  Calcutta...and  my  budget  is  low...

Thanks  for  your  valuable  time  ...and  waiting  for  your  suggestions

 this  are  my  Oscars

 Hey  Mac,

You  need  to  upgrade  quick,  they  grow  at  an  awesome  rate   Very Happy

 U  need:

 -  6  x  2  x  2  if  u  can  afford  or  a  5  x  2  x  2  ->  Stick  to  12  mm
 -  Sand  would  be  the  best  substrate,  a  4  inch  base  will  look  good
 -  an  external  filter.  If  you  cannot  afford  one  now,  get  a  very  powerful  internal  filter  or  a  top  filter  and  start  saving  for  an  external  filter  before  they  get  big  enough  to  choke  the  internal  filter
 -  for  decoration  part,  go  big  -  Rocks,  Driftwood  etc.,  anything  small,  they  ll  start  moving  them  and  thrashing  stuff  around
 -  heaters  ->  depending  on  your  location
 -  not  very  sure  on  lighting

Sorry,  I  am  not  able  to  contribute  on  the  cost  part   Sad   But  I  would  say  your  budget  is  fair  enough  to  get  you  set  up..

 All  the  best..  Thumb Up

tank  -6x2x2(feet)  or  maybe  be  bigger?-  around  10xxxRupees  which  includes-Stand,tank,top(12mm)
 i  had  2  dollars  with  4  oscars.  so  i  dunno  ,  i  pretty  much  acheived  it  :D

good  filter  -  external  will  be  preferable  cost  =now  go  for  a  top  filters  as  they  are  cheap  and  give  good  filtration.  save  up  and  buy  a  canister  later.  it  would  cost  around  4xxx  rs.
lights  -  i  like  blue  and  white  lights  cost=  ?-  i  bought  mine  blue  t5  4ft  lenght  for  less  the  half  of  5xxrs.

air-pump  -  good  air  pump  cost=  dont  go  for  airpumps,  i  personally  wouldnt.  Buy  urself  a  submersible  pump  come  filter  type  one  with  aeration.  thats  more  quite  and  nice  :)

water  heater  -  xxx  Rs.  They  are  pretty  cheap.

Decoration  -  as  far  as  i  have  experienced  keeping  big  rocks  consumes  lot  of  moving  space  for  BIG  oscars,  u  cant  keep  plants,  cuz  they  ll  rip  off  everything!
Try  driftwood,  white  sand  or  lightly  colored  substrate  with  a  black  background.  See  more  in  picture  in  MFK  on  how  they  design  their  monster  fish  tanks  Smile

If  you  are  willing  to  do  regular  water  changes,  then  lesser  filtration  will  also  be  ok.
Personally,  I  feel,  30  to  40%  water  change  weekly  would  be  nice.
And  what  do  u  mean  by  "Red"  sand??
In  my  opinion,  go  for  either  normal  brown  color  river  sand  or  the  white  color  silica  sand.
Try  to  find  some  huge  rocks..  more  like  boulders.  They  will  look  good  also  and  your  oscars  wont  be  able  to  disturb  them.

And  ..  by  the  way..  good  luck   Thumb Up
