I  have  been  running  a  140  gallon  tank  since  april  2010  till  now  with  the  skimmer  running  continuous..

in  the  last  19  months  the  skimmer  and  not  collected  even  a  pinch  of  impurities...

its  only  running  and  nothing  has  been  collected  by  it...

Now  i  am  worried  if  i  have  installed  it  correctly?  because  when  i  saw  the  skimmer  at  a  few  LFS  full  of  foam  i  ended  up  thinking  if  something  was  wrong  in  my  setup..

My  skimmer  is  installed  in  my  sump  and  i  have  one  powerhead  pumping  water  in  the  skimmer...  it  seems  to  be  working  perfect  by  the  looks  of  it  but  no  collection  of  foam...  the  water  is  also  till  the  water  level  mark  actually  a  little  higher  when  running.

 Any  views?

 Vikas

Is  there  foam  generated  inside  the  skimmer?  Usually  all  skimmers  have  some  settings  to  adjust  the  level  of  foam  to  make  sure  that  your  collection  cup  does  not  overflow.  Normally  I  my  skimmer  cup  fills  up  in  approx  2  weeks,  sometimes  sooner  if  I  feed  more..

 Rgds,
 Anand

yes  keep  the  bubbles  coming  upto  the  neck  and  if  you  shine  a  torch  at  one  end  of  the  skimmer  u  shud  not  be  able  to  see  it  clearly  on  the  other  side  the  bubbles  need  to  be  that  dense  ore  upgrade  your  pump  and  it  usuly  should  start  skimming  within  a  week  of  installation  it  will  not  skim  even  if  your  salinity  is  too  low  and  plz  update  your  skimmer  specification

there  is  no  foam  generated  inside  the  skimmer  also  lots  of  turbulence  and  bubble  but  thats  it  no  foam  on  top..  but  the  fish  are  living  well.

i  failed  to  mention  there  were  no  fish  in  the  tank...  do  i  need  fish  to  create  the  skimmer  to  create  some  foam?

if  yes  then  i  introduced  fish  just  recently

Wait  till  you  build  up  some  bio  load  and  your  skimmer  should  start  skimming.

Put  some  damn  fish  in  your  tank...!

There  are  no  nutrients  in  your  tank  for  your  skimmer  to  pull  out..once  you  add  some  livestock,  you  will  see  some  skimmate  in  the  cup..

The  water  level  mark  stated  by  you  is  the  min.  water  level  mark...not  the  optimum  level  mark.

Weipro  skimmers  largely  depend  upon  the  kind  of  pump  you  use  with  them  as  very  few  models  come  with  a  pump,  if  any  are  there  at  all.

 Increase  your  bio  load.

Some  weipro  make  skimmers  produce  enough  skimmate  when  it  is  elevated  few  inches  above  the  normal  setting.  I  have  done  this  with  my  old  set  up  and  had  the  collection  cup  full  within  one  week.  I  had  large  fishes  like  angels  &  tangs  so  the  tank  was  having  more  bioload  and  elevating  the  skimmer  helped.
