any  solutions  to  one  hell  of  a  noisy  Airpump?  Razz

Usually,  the  noise  is  produced  when  the  vibrating  airpump  hits  the  surface  it  rests  upon.
 Solution:
Use  some  padding.  I  personally  suspend  my  airpump  vertically  using  tape  and  loop  a  thick  strip  of  paper  under  it  as  a  simple  shock  absorber.  Its  vertually  pin  drop  silent.  I  will  post  a  pic  later.

If  the  insides  of  the  airpump  are  producing  noise,  the  pivot  or  the  magnet's  attachment  might  broken.  You  need  to  open  the  pump  and  fix  this.

Nice,  but  not  100%  vibration  free  i  guess,  as  the  pump  is  still  attached  to  the  table.  My  idea  to  reduce  vibration  and  hence  noise  is  to  freely  suspend  the  pump  (hanging  from  a  thread!).  Try  it,  you  will  be  surprised  by  the  awesome  results  !  Thumb Up

Thanks  for  the  informative  tutorial  and  appreciate  the  same.

However  when  I  see  the  position  of  the  air  pump  in  the  picture  for  noise  reduction,  I  have  concerns  -  the  pump  is  hanging  below  the  water  level  and  if  the  pump  stops  working  (as  it  happens  frequently  here  with  no  electricity  for  1  to  2  hours),  the  water  would  back  flow  in  the  pump.  Trust  you  will  agree  with  the  same.

 Regards

Looks  like  u  might  want  to  leave  the  pump  suspended  above  water  level  Smile  .

This  can  be  overcome  by  simply  attaching  a  non-return  valve.

No  need  to  get  pump  all  the  way  above  water  level,  just  raising  above  the  tube's  end  level  (the  air  tube  inside  aquarium)  will  be  enough.

 Very  nice  topic.
But  the  most  important  reason  why  air  pumps  stop  is  due  to  the  rubber  cap  breaking  off.  Does  any  one  know  where  we  can  get  that  in  Bangalore

 cheers
