 Hi,

You  cannot  just  use  the  fire  extinguisher  as  a  CO2  cylinder  for  planted  aquarium.  You  will  have  to  fill  in  the  liquid  CO2  for  our  aquarium  usage  and  for  that,  we  will  have  to  remove  the  center  tube  which  is  there  inside  the  fire  extinguisher  cylinder.

This  procedure  cannot  be  done  by  us.  You  have  to  take  it  to  the  refilling  station  and  ask  them  to  do  this  for  you.  There  is  an  old  post  from  Trevor  sir  explaining  all  these.  You  can  search  for  it..  (If  I  get  it,  will  post  it  here).

 Fire  Exitinguisher  Cross  Section  View

You  can  see  the  pics  and  notice  the  center  tube  which  runs  to  the  bottom  of  the  cylinder.  This  tube  has  to  be  removed.

Spoke  to  the  vendor.  According  to  him  the  tank  which  I  have  been  given  has  ONLY  CO2  Gas  in  it.  It  is  used  by  soda  makers  as  well  as  it  is.  So  according  to  him  I  do  not  need  to  make  any  changes  before  I  start  using  it  for  Aqaurium.  Additionally  the  valve  on  it  is  CGA  320  so  that  will  work  with  my  existing  regulator  fitting  as  well.  Another  thing  he  said  was  that  if  we  remove  the  siphon  tube  which  is  in  side  then  the  pressure  will  be  released  too  fast  to  be  regulated  by  normal  regulator.......

Am  I  missing  something  here  or  is  the  Vendor  missing  something?   Surprised

Hey  Suraj  is  there  a  washer  in  the  nut  which  attaches  the  regulator  to  the  fire  extinguisher  ?

Cool..  Do  you  see  any  freezing  in  the  pipe  which  connects  the  regulator  to  the  cylinder?

Nops...that  happens  in  different  situations  which  is  high  pressure  and  high  flow.  CGA  320  with  regulators  used  by  us  in  hobby  are  designed  for  tapering  the  pressure  down  and  at  the  same  time  give  out  slow,  steady  gas  output  so  that  we  can  adjust  it  even  further  with  needle  valve  at  the  end.

Have  you  seen  it  happening  with  our  regulators?
