 Hi  friends,
Almost  month  back  I  bought  pearl  arowana,  since  then  I  am  feeding  him  blood  worm  as  LFS  guy  used  to  feed  him  same.
Now  I  am  trying  since  last  week  to  change  his  food  habit  to  some  pallets  but  he  is  not  accepting  anything  other  than  blood  worms.
Can  anyone  suggest  me  to  change  food  habit  of  this  guy????

How  big  is  the  arowana?     How  many  days  did  you  starve  him?     4  days  at  the  minimum?     What  pellets  did  you  try  feeding  him?

Bigger  the  arowana,  tougher  it  would  be.

 Regards,
 Jai

4  days  of  starving  will  help.      Continue  the  effort.....you  will  have  to  make  multiple  attempts.

 Regards,
 Jai

Changing  food  habits  in  Arowana  is  very  difficult.  I  tried  this  way  and  it  worked  best  for  me.  Feed  the  Aro  with  chopped  prawns  supplemented  with  feeder  fish  (not  goldies),  continue  for  couple  of  weeks.  After  2-3  weeks  blend  chopped  prawns  with  the  desired  pellets  you  wish  to  continue  feeding  and  feed  the  paste  in  small  quantity.  You  aro  will  accept  after  2-3  spits.

Keep  the  remaining  blended  mixture  in  deep  freezer  and  feed  it  daily.

Now  when  you  finish  up  the  frozen  food.  The  next  mix  will  contain  little  less  prawns  and  more  pellets..

Continue  this  way  and  ultimately  after  a  month  or  two  you  aro  will  feed  the  desired  pellet.

But  keep  in  mind  never  drop  dry  pellet  into  the  tank  but  instead  soak  it  in  a  cup  of  water  for  5  mins  and  then  drop  into  tank.

I  would  not  support  the  starving  method  as  it  seems  cruel...

As  I  understand,  even  in  the  wild,  Arowanas  don't  get  (or  take)  continous  source  of  food.      They  sometimes  get  (or  take)  large  source  of  food  and  go  without  food  for  few  days.

Even  in  tanks,  as  the  arowana  grows  in  size,  one  is  expected  to  reduce  the  frequency  of  feeding.

If  the  above  is  true,  I  would  not  worry  about  starving  them  for  couple  of  days.

 Cheers,
 Jai
