 Hi  Friends,

Page  1  -  Crystal  clear  tank

Page  4  -  Schooling  cardinal  tetras
Page  6  -  DIY  Auto  top-up  system  with  Syringe  doser
Page  7  -  DIY  Cooling  fan
 Page  9  -  HC  carpet
Page  11  -  DIY  Maintenance  stand

When  I  shifted  to  my  new  rented  flat  had  decided  to  have  only  one  planted  tank.  Earlier  I  had  three  planted  tank.  After  my  daughter  was  born,  I  decided  to  have  only  one  planted  tank  as  maintaining  three  tanks  would  be  very  difficult.

 So  here  the  story  starts.

Tank  dimension  was  decided  as  3'Lx2'Wx18"H.  Decided  to  buy  extra  clear  float  glass.  Finalized  on  10mm  extra  clear  glass.  Ordered  the  glass  and  was  every  eagerly  waiting  for  the  glass  to  arrive.  Finally  the  glass  arrived   Smile  To  my  shock,  they  have  sent  me  8mm  extra  clear  glass  instead  of  10mm.  I  had  front  and  two  side  glasses  with  extra  clear  8mm  and  bottom  and  back  glass  as  10mm!!!

What  should  I  do  now?  Ordered  for  10mm  and  received  8mm  glass!!!!  Sad  .  I  called  the  shop  keeper  and  he  informed  me  that  they  dont  have  10mm  glass  and  hence  sent  8mm.  I  told  them  that  I  dont  need  the  8mm.  Finally  they  informed  me  that  they  are  sending  me  12mm  glass  since  they  dont  have  10mm  glass  in  stock.   Very Happy

Wow  I  got  the  12mm  extra  clear  glass.  My  heart  broke  when  I  receive  the  12mm  glass   Sad   Sad  Two  glasses  were  badly  scratched   Sad   Sad   Sad  Sent  the  glass  again  back  to  the  shop.  The  shop  then  sent  me  new  sets  of  glass...

Finally  I  glued  the  tank  with  help  of  my  good  IAH  friend  Ruchit   Smile   Smile

 Great  and  patient  start  Shelley,
Did  you  use  tapes  to  get  narrow  silicon  layer  on  corners?  It  appears  very  neat  remaining  where  it  should  be.
 Good  luck
 with  best  regards,
 Sudheer

 Hi  Shelly,

Good  work  but  no  idea  why  you  restricted  yourself  to  18"  height,  am  sure  you  will  use  LED  lighting.

Yes  Sudheer.  I  did  use  masking  tape  to  get  the  neat  clear  line  mark.  And  of  course  a  great  patience  were  visible  in  this  3  feeter  making!!!!

Now  comes  the  stand  for  this  tank!

I  planned  to  make  an  ADA  style  cabinet.  I  took  the  print  out  of  the  cabinet  model  that  I  need.  Took  the  same  to  the  carpenter  near  to  my  home.  He  told  that  it  would  cost  me  12K  for  the  stand!!!   Surprised   Surprised   Can  I  really  spend  12K  for  the  stand  alone???   Confused

But  I  was  determined  that  I  need  the  ADA  style  cabinet.  Till  now,  all  the  stands,  tanks,  lights  for  my  earlier  tanks  were  done  by  myself.  This  time  I  decided  that  I  would  get  the  stand  done  from  a  carpenter  so  that  the  stand  finish  would  be  much  better  than  I  make.  My  heart  broke  when  he  quoted  12K  for  the  stand!!!  What  would  I  do  now?  If  I  spend  12K  only  on  stand,  my  budget  would  go  high!!!!   Sad

My  friend  Ruchit  helped  me  here  too..  He  knew  a  carpenter  who  could  do  this  for  me  at  a  lesser  rate..   Very Happy

And  I  went  all  the  way  25KM  away  from  my  home  to  get  the  stand  build.  I  was  happy  that  the  new  carpenter  was  ready  to  do  it  at  a  lesser  rate.  Which  was  very  well  suiting  my  budget.  But  the  issue  was  carpenter  was  so  busy  that  he  could'nt  do  it  very  soon.  Finally  after  3  weeks  times,  I  got  the  stand  build.

I  showed  the  printout  and  the  carpenter  did  the  stand  exactly  in  the  way  I  need.  To  my  luck,  I  go  the  mica  sheet  in  similar  to  the  ada  stand.

Here  are  the  stand  photos   Smile

Hi  Shelly,

Good  work  but  no  idea  why  you  restricted  yourself  to  18"  height,  am  sure  you  will  use  LED  lighting.

Thanks..  Most  of  the  planted  tank's  which  I  have  seen  across  are  all  18"  in  height.  More  over,  it  would  be  very  easy  for  maintenance  too.  Yes  I  did  plan  to  use  Cree  LED  setup  (DIY).  But  the  costing  was  too  much  as  I  had  to  spend  more  on  extra  clear  float  glass!!!.  The  front,  two  side  glasses  are  extra  clear  float  glass.  This  itself  have  costed  me  a  bomb!!

And  I  also  had  to  spend  some  amount  of  money  in  stand.  Hence  decided  to  have  PLL  lighting  for  time  being  and  then  later  on  move  to  LED.
