Thanks Shubhankar Â
All my Channa are on dry shrimp, bloodworms, prawns and occasional mussels except this 26'' barca brute who eats only live insects, small rats and frogs!

Thanks Nandy, it just intensified when I started keeping natives and caught a lot of gachua variants.
Sid, many thanks but you really cracked me up! Â
How is it done? Firstly all my Channa species are in Bangalore except 3 which I keep in London.
Channa are a pain in terms of space occupancy because if they're not a bonded pair, I give a single specimen a tank of its own even if the list is long. Hence, these are spread out over my home and a couple of my cousins' homes in about 40 tanks. I frequent Bangalore every 4 months or so and do the basic groundwork for my Channa to see if a pair has formed, if they're compatible, aggressive etc. Only juvenile growing Channa need to be fed everyday and the rest can be neglected for long periods of time if their apartments are well set! Â If a pair breeds then a little extra care is taken and more updates given to me. The only major issue to look for with precision has been the hot Bangalore summers for sub tropical Channa and these have been resolved with gained experience and some suitable remedies for them.
Technology plays a major role as I get pictures or updates or so over Blackberry Messenger every other day and a good eye for Channa means that I'm able to more or less gauge what's happening. Â
This is how they're remote controlled and their tribe will only grow with me over time. Â
Thank you N3Aro
Thanks for the appreciation Ramdas Â
Cheers,
Tabrez |

Hi Guys
Have an update as of today:
1) Some new species have been added to my collection
2) Channa pulchra managed to spawn surprisingly in February even though the pair is violent to each other and the current hot temperatures in Bangalore do not help! Some F1s were given to a couple of members here.
3) Channa sp. Laos Fireback F1 juveniles were successfully passed on to some members here and a few are specially kept aside for Mumbai members upon my next trip, sorry guys missed this time.
5) Channa sp. Mimetic pulchra has spawned here in London in March.
4) Indian Channa varieties are doing great and the ever so vicious breeders Channa cf gachua turquoise have F8 juveniles now!
5) Most pictures are bad as they're pictures sent over BBM so apologies.
Channa striata 'Albino'
Parachanna obscura, the African Snakehead
Channa lucius in excellent camouflage
Channa pulchra F1 surviving fry, the surprise!
Channa harcourtbutleri
Channa ornatipinnis, one of my favourite Channa
Channa pleurophthalma
Channa sp. Redfin/Red Rim Rainbow male
Channa pulchra male
Channa sp. Redfin/Red Rim Rainbow female
I will update this thread with time, enjoy! |
