Two  of  my  Jewel  is  holding,  I  dont  have  male  jewel  .   Only  male  fish  i  had  was  the  Electric  yellow  .   it  may  be  hybrid,  which  is  not  good.   But  i  am  thinking  what  kind  of  fries  i  ll  get.   Electric  yellow  with  jewwel  spots,  or  jewel  in  yellow  color.   Hoping  to  get  some  best.     what  do  you  think?

Well  there  are  two  cases  in  this  if  you  are  right  about  the  male  and  female  part  of  the  fishes  there  is  a  possibility  of  hybrid  as  the  fishes  are  of  the  same  African  cichlid  (mabuna)  species,  but  on  that  did  you  ever  notice  any  behavioral  changes  in  the  male  electric  yellow  and  female  jewels  in  any  time..because  there  might  be  a  possibility.  But  if  that  is  not  the  case  then  it's  probably  malawi  bloat  a  disease  commonly  found  in  the  african  cichlid  species  which  causes  swollen  belly,  red  eyes  sore  throat.  If  you  see  any  such  symtoms  take  immediate  precaution.  One  more  symtom  of  this  is  the  fish  normally  lays  to  the  bottom  or  will  float  on  the  surface.

@Dabbu   .-  Even  am  not  sure  .   But  am  sure  they  are  holding  .

@  Victor   -   i  didnt  find  any  major  behavioural  changes  in  them.   They  act  normally.   but  hide  all  the  time,  not  taking  any  food,  always  stays  closed  mouth  -  only  for  past  two  weeks.

Upated-   Separated  the  Jewel  from  main  tank  to  20  gallon  tank.

Did  you  guys  know  about  normal  holding  days  for  jewel  ?

 Tank  Setup  Information   :

 120  US  gallon  -  River  Sand  -

 Stock  list

 1  male  electric  yellow

 2  -  Jewel  cichiled

 3  -  Orange  Cichild

By  the  jewel  cichlid  if  u  mean  the  Hemichromis  species,  then  in  no  way  its  possible  as  the  jewels  are  substrate  spawners  while  the  mbunas  are  mouth  brooders,  even  if  they  hybridised  the  jewel  female  would  lay  the  eggs  on  the  substrate  and  guard  the  eggs,  it  wont   hold  the  eggs  in  the  mouth.
 Post  some  pics  if  possible

@  Mudassir  -   yes  it  is  Hemichromis  species.   I  was  not  aware  they  are  substrate  spawners!!!  .   Let  me  check  today.   will  post  post  pics.

It  quit  eating  for  past  2  weeks.   if  its  not  spawn,     its  makes  think,  whether  its  a  bloat  ???   Oh  My  God.  I  need  to  treate  if  its  bloat.

its  not  a  bloat,  in  case  of  bloat  the  fish  cant  swim  and  keeps  coming  to  the  surface,  the  fish  keep  struggling  for  balance  while  swimming,  your  fish  appears  good,
did  you  check  for  internal  parasites?  Is  the  excreta  of  the  fish  white  in  colour??
