 Hello  Experts,

Yesterday,  I  tried  hatching  brine  shrimp  for  my  fish  fries.  My  attempt  was  not  sucessful,  so  asking  the  experts  here,  what  I  have  done  wrong.  Here  are  the  steps  I  have  performed.

 1.  Took  Empty  glass  bottle.
 2.  Added  Tap  water(approximately  200  ml).
 3.  Added  Brine  shrimp  mix,  1  measuring  spoon,  they  have  mentioned  on  the  pack  that  I  should  use  3  measuring  spoon  per  500  ml.
 4.  I  used  JBL  brine  shrimp  mix,  which  already  has  salt  in  it.  so  acording  to  the  manual,  I  should  not  add  additional  salt.
 5.  used  rigorous  oxygen  supply  using  oxygen  pipe  for  24-36  hours.
 6.  when  I  saw  this  morning,  nothing  is  hatched.

When  I  saw  videos  on  youtube,  I  noticed  something,
1.They  have  applied  a  light  source(bulb)  during  hatching  process.
2.They  have  kept  the  bottle  open  from  top.

Do  you  think,  these  are  the  mandatory  things?  without  which  brine  shrimp  won't  hatch?

 Regards.
 Sandy

use  a  100  watt  yellow  bulb  for  hatching,  I  saw  this  at  Shiva's  hatchery.  Ask  Shiva  (discusoloic).  This  bulb  attracts  brine  shripms  and  the  fries  can  catch  them  from  1  single  place.

 @garothmaan,

Thanks  for  quick  reply.  Yes  I  will  use  a  bulb,  but  the  current  problem  I  am  facing  is  I  am  not  able  to  hatch  them  at  first  place.

so  my  question  would  be,  is  the  bulb  necessary  during  hatching  process?

 Regards.
 Sandy

Let  me  share  what  i  do..

In  a  empty  bottle,  add  3  table  spoon  of  salt.
Add  1  litre  of  water  to  it  and  then  add  1/2  spoon  of  brime  shrimp  eggs.

Use  air  pump  to  supply  air  to  the  bottle.  This  will  keep  the  eggs  in  motion  until  they  hatch.

I  keep  the  bottle  near  the  window  so  that  it  gets  the  sunlight  (not  direct  sunlight).

I  don't  use  any  bulb.  It  is  necessay  only  if  the  sunlight  is  very  less  (  due  to  rainy  season).

Usually  it  takes  24  -  30  hours  for  the  eggs  to  hatch..

 Thanks

 -Prabhu

It  takes  about  36  hrs  but  I  remember  Shiva's  words  as  Next  day,  so  I  guess  24  hrs.  He  uses  a  bulb,  I  have  seen  it  muself

I  know  why  you  are  reluctant  to  experiment.  Brine  shrimps  are  expensive  per  package.  But  it  will  work  good  luck.

Yes  Light  is  necessary  even  for  hatching,  and  not  only  to  attract  the  brime  while  siphoning  out.
 Leave  the  light  on  24/7.

Best  to  get  a  Brime  Shrimp  Net,  to  take  em  out,  simply  siphon  the  water  out  and
hold  the  net  on  the  outlet  all  the  brime  will  get  stuck  there  in  the  net,
so  no  salty  water  in  the  fry  tank  either.

@garothmaan-  Yes  that's  the  one  reason  of  course,  I  agree.

The  reason  for  asking  this  to  experts  is  simply  because  I  did  this  first  time  myself  &  honestly  I  wasn't  expecting  it  to  work  100%  well..but  it  didn't  work  at  all   Thumb Down

So  before  attempting  the  next  time,  I  would  like  to  try  and  correct  the  mistakes  I  did  first  time..

 Thanks.

My  second  attempt  was  better  than  first  one,  Although  I  see  lot  of  scope  for  improvement.

It  took  nearly  36  Hours  to  hatch,  probably  because  a  bit  of  low  temprature.

They  need  heat  and  light  both  to  hatch.  So  make  sure  you  keep  the  bulb  on  for  the  hatching  period.  Usually  it  takes  24  to  30  hours.  And  air  pump  should  on..  Or  they  will  suffocate  to  death.

And  keep  the  bulb  near  the  brineshrimp  hatchary  so  they  can  get  the  heat  too.  Good  luck.
 And  fries  do  you  have?
