Question  :  Pinholes  in  plant  leaves  is  attributed  to  Potassuim  Deficiency.  Ive  noticed  this  happening  to  the  plant  Hydrophila  Polysperma  Green.  (online  in  some  forums  this  plant  is  famous  for  this  too)

I've  clicked  some  photos  and  circled  the  spots.  Included  is  also  the  Red  Macaranda.

 http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.191314847666067.44690.100003626606749&type=1&l=55c45f7adb

The  pinhole  starts  first  and  then  that  area  becomes  yellow  with  the  hole  becoming  bigger  and  eventually  yellowing  the  whole  leaf  till  it  rots  and  comes  off.

Those  who  are  following  the  Macro  Nutrients  dosing  with  monitoring  ppm  levels  on  Potassium  would  know  the  limit  is  10-20ppm.  My  ppm  level  was  16  and  I've  raised  it  to  19  this  week  and  will  monitor.

Please  advise  if  any  one  has  tackled  a  problem  like  this  OR  increased  their  dose  beyond  the  20ppm  level.  On  another  forum  they  suggested  to  add  a  Potassium  Fert  Tab,  but  my  Seachem  Flourite  already  has  Potassium  in  it.

 Thanks

If  is  a  high  light,  co2  tank  with  good  plant  growth,  these  levels  of  potassium  will  not  be  enough.
I  am  dosing  close  to  40  ppm  of  potassium,  assuming  a  50%  uptake  by  plants  ,  I  would  be  having  about  12  to  15  ppm  in  my  tank.
Increase  your  dosage  to  about  25-30,  the  deficiency  will  disappear.
This  is  the  tank  with  these  dose.

Increase  potassium,  K2SO4,  don't  expect  overnight  results,  it  takes  3  weeks  before  you  see  a  change,
old  leaves  will  not  recover.  Best  is  prune  the  plant  and  you'll  get  new  leaves  without  the  deficiency.

 Thanks  Sandeep.  Nice  Tank.
My  2ft  tank  (18.7  Gall)  is  a  Low  <  than  Medium  (2x20  watts  Azoo)  nano.  Internal  Power  Head.
I  dose  Liquid  Carbon  Daily.  Have  to  do  a  lot  of  trimming  now  because  since  I've  started  this  dosing  method  the  plants  grow  crazy  and  blocking  the  light  below.  So  I  do  have  issues  of  leaves  not  growing  at  the  bottom  of  some  stems  and  prime  reason  would  be  because  of  this.
I  wonder  if  I  can  add  more  light  to  this  nano.  Does  algae  develop  if  lighting  is  raised  ?
Next  water  change  I  will  increase  my  dose  of  Potassium  and  monitor
In  your  experience  how  long  does  it  take  to  see  results.  At  least  a  month.  Correct  ?  Surely  not  within  a  weeks  time.  Right  ?

As  Madan  has  already  stated  it  takes  about  3  weeks  for  results  to  appear.
Increase  of  lights  without  increase  in  Co2  can  result  in  algae.
You  cannot  increase  dosage  of  liquid  co2,  which  i  think  is  similar  to  Florish  Excel.
You  need  to  trim  stem  plants  very  often  for  leaves  to  grow  at  bottom  part  of  stem.

 Hi,

Also  it  may  be  plant  specific  issue,  some  plants  do  require  potassium  in  excess  than  others.  i  had  staurogyne  tropic  showing  similar  deficiencies,  increased  dosing  of  k2so4  did  the  trick,  dont  ask  me  ppm  as  i  never  test  that   Very Happy

all  other  plants  were  doing  great  but  staurogyne.

 Cheers,
 Binesh
