Yesterday,  I  bought  a  thermometer  at  the  rate  of  RS.50  and  its  China  Made.

As   it  shows  the  default  leading  scale  as  27  c.  after  that  I  placed  inside  my  tank  ,  again  its  shows  the  leading  as  27  c.

Also,  I  tried  in  my  fridge  the  temperature  goes  upto  18  C

What  is  the  ideal  temperature  for  the  planted  aquarium?

Currently,  In  my  tank  it  shows  27o  C  without  having  light.

Forget  the  plants,  the  main  concern  is  about  the  kind  of  fishes  you  keep..  plants  can  adjust  to  a  range  of  temperature  in  moderation,  but  fish  will  suffer  the  most..  So  normally,  since  we  will  be  dealing  with  tropical  fishes.  The  range  for  these  will  be  22  to  29  Degrees  Centigrade.  Most  plants  do  well  in  this  range  as  well,  except  their  growth  might  slow  down  a  bit  if  its  not  their  ideal  temp.

 +1  to  Nidhi

In  general,  most  fish  will  enjoy  themselves  if  temperture  is  in  range  of  25-28  degrees  &  also  there  is  not  much  deviations  such  as  sudden  rise  or  drop  in  tempratures.

Can  we  use  ice  cubes  to  reduce  the  temperature,  if  suddenly  it  raised?

Nidhi,  This  will  make  the  temperature  down.  Will  it  cause  any  harm  for  the  fish.?

I  have  read,  that  they  were  successful  in  getting  the  temp  down  by  2  degrees..
If  the  temp  reduces  slowly  and  the  water  has  good  circulation  to  avoid  hot/cold  spots  in  the  tank..then,  I  feel  then  your  fishes  will  be  OK.

Ice  cube  is  not  a  perfect  solution.  How  many  times  in  a  day  can  you  put  ice  cubes  in  your  tank?  Can  you  regularly  put  the  ice  cubes  in  the  tank???

Some  one  posted  a  DIY  cooler  made  of  frozen  bottles,  place  above  the  tank..
I  don't  know  how  effective  it  was..  But  sure  worth  a  try.
Or  else  give  them  link  to  your  DIY  coolers  with  fans,  let  them  decide..

A  stable  temperature  is  a  prime  requisite  for  any  aquarium  whether  planted  or  not.
You  cannot  have  a  stable  temp  with  ice  cubes.
Fans  are  cheaper  option,  chiller  is  best  option.
I  am  yet  to  see  a  practical  option  of  cooling  aquariums  on  a  long  term  basis  other  than  these  two.

If  temprature  is  greater  than  desire,  I  would  rather  prefer  to  do  a  partial  water  change  and  make  sure  that  temperature  of  new
water  is  at  least  2  degree  less  than  the  new  one.

Then  change  the  heater  thermostrat  to  2  degree  less  than  the  current  one.  if  earlier  it  was  28  degree  then  set  it  to  26  degree  and  monitor  the  tank.

Repeat  the  same  process  to  drop  a  temperature  slowly  and  your  fish  won't  be  troubled.  sudden  change  in  the  temperature  and  disapoointment  to  follow.

 Sandy

Here  are  my  cooling  fans  Cooler  fans

You  could  get  a  12Volt  CPU  fans  from  an  electronics  shop  and  connect  it  to  a  12Volt  DC  adapter.  You  can  connect  one  to  2  fans  to  a  single  1Amp  12Volt  DC  power  supply.

There  are  some  post's  in  IAH  regarding  the  CPU  fan  cooler.  You  will  have  to  search  for  it..   Thumb Up
