Tap,  water  is  best  if  its  not  a  marine  or  a  chichlid  tank.  Use  hypo  to  dechlorinate  the  water  or  use  airpump  to  airate  the  water  for  atleast  24  hour.  And  use  extra  caution  in  rainy  seasons.

And  please  update  your  location  and  source  of  ground  water.  Because  chlorine  and  ph  plays  vital  role  in  your  fish  tank.  Smile

hypo  is  use  to  remove  chlorine  from  the  water  which  is  harmful  for  fish  and  if  your  LFS  don't  have  Hypo  then  ask  for  Dechlorination  liquid  which  is  easly  available  @  LFS

 Sodium  Thiosulfate.

Abhi_dj86  is  correct.  Ask  your  LFS  for  de-chlorinator.

 @Ruban:
Get  a  dechlorinator  from  the  local  fish  shop.  But  for  bore  water  we  dont  need  this..  In  Municipal  water  they  mix  more  chlorine..  So  go  with  bore  water  itself...   Thumb Up

@Deepak  G:  What  kind  of  water  we  need  for  chichild  tank?

chichlids  do  well  with  high  ph.  Minus  a  few  exceptions.  But  karbonate  hardness  will  be  a  factor.  So  before  buying  chichlids  you  should  Google  first..

I  simply  use  water  purified  from  Aquaguard  water  filter  which  keeps  off  any  chlorine  and  other  impurities.

I  am  not  too  sure  if  this  will  work  out  for  you,  but  it  did  quite  good  for  me.   I  have  a  small  rectangular  glass  tank  and  have  8  tiger  barbs  in  them.

IMO  its  better  to  leave  chlorinated  water  for  24  hrs  in  still  position  before  putting  the  fish  in  ,so  that  the  chlorine  settles  down  to  some  extent..

I  hope  it  is  not  a  RO  unit,  water  filtered  from  RO  unit  is  not  fit  for  aquariums.
It  has  no  buffering  capacity  and  ph  fluctuations  are  very  high.
RO  water  needs  to  be  mixed  with  regular  water  or  with  marine  salts  to  built  up  buffering  capacity.

 Hi  Sandeep,

 Thanks  for  your  valuable  input.

No,  my  water  filter  is  not  an  RO  unit,  have  confirmed  from  the  manufacturer.   It  is  Aquaguard  Compact  with  e-boiling+.

 So  will  that  be  okay?

 Regards,

 Deep

Hi  Sandeep,

 Thanks  for  your  valuable  input.

No,  my  water  filter  is  not  an  RO  unit,  have  confirmed  from  the  manufacturer.   It  is  Aquaguard  Compact  with  e-boiling+.

 So  will  that  be  okay?

 Regards,

 Deep

Ok  ,  No  problem.  Thumb Up
But  then  you  really  don't  need  filtered  water  for  aquariums,  normal  tap  water  is  good  enough.  Smile
However  if  have  really  bad  tap  water  TDS>  1000,  Gh>20,  you  need  to  mix  RO  water,  which  is  what  I  am  doing.

i  am  also  a  new  hobbyist  and  have  fond  that  some  places  chloromine  is  added  to  the  municipal  water  but  a  dechlorinator  that  neutralises  both  chlorine  and  chloramine  is  a  must.
