 Hi  All,

I  am  planning  to  use  solar  panels  for  my  3  ft  planted  tank  ,just  to  minimalize  my  power  bills  and  have  a  one  time  setup  to  power  up  my  lighting  source.

Can  anyone  help  me  out  in  sourcing  the  solar  panels  and  its  related  accessories.  How  much  it  would  cost  to  have  a  400  Watts  setup?

by  the  way  i  live  in  Bangalore.

 Cheers,
 Sanjeev

There  is  online  website  which  sells  solar  powered  lights  &  stuff.
They  are  advertising  on  Facebook,  check  it  out.
I  will  post  the  link,  can't  seem  to  find  it  just  now.

i  have  used  a  Solar  Universe  torch  for  some  time.  It  works  well,  they  were  selling  panels  too.  A  charger  that  runs  on  panels  only  was  around  5XX  bucks  only.  The  torch  was  around  200  bucks.  Works  well  and  it  has  been  a  year  and  a  half.

the  torch  is  a  small  thing,  in  this  size,  a  backup  of  8  hours  is  unrealistic.  As  i  said,  it  just  cost  200  bucks,  and  working  like  this,  i  think  i  got  my  money  back  by  now.  They  have  more  stuff,  really  elaborate  panels.  My  logic  is,  Solar  Universe  is  worth  checking  out.   They  have  a  site  also,  just  google  it.   Smile

The  panel  is  fine,  just  gets  rather  dusty.  so  needs  wiping  with  care.

last  year  i  was  checking  for  a  solar  option  for  my  house  and  i  was  quoted  Rs1  lakh  for  1  KW  unit.  so  though  the  idea  may  sound  fascinating  but  its  not  affordable  at  this  point  of  time.

 1+  sushant

Solar  lights  are  expensive.  But  in  time,  you  could  recover  the  money  you  had  spent  on  installing  the  solar  unit.

Some  governments  provide  subsidy  for  purchasing  solar  panels  for  agricultural  use.  You  can  give  a  try  in  that  aspect.   Thumb Up

Solar  panels  accounts  to  the  major  part  of  the  expense  and  then  the  battery  used  to  store  the  charge.
