 Hi  Everyone

I  need  help  as  I'm  planning  to  use  some  PLLs  on  planted  nanos  of  2  feet  and  1.5  feet.

If  any  one  has  been  using  only  PLLs  of  18/36  Watts,  6500  K  and  8000  K  can  you  please  post  pictures  of  your  planted  nanos  /  tanks  so  that  I  can  see  results  of  your  plants  growth  of  green  and  red  plants

Do  also  let  us  know  what  substrate  you  use  and  if  youre  dosing  Micro  and  Macro  nutrients

 Thanks

I  am  using  2x36  Watts  Phillips  PLL  6500k

 Not  yet  started  dosing  Micro/Macros.

You  can  check  pictures  of  my  tank  on  the  below  mentioned  thread:

 Thanks  Abhijit
This  first  photo  had  a  red  plant  on  the  left.
Is  it  still  there  in  the  last  picture  ?

Yes  its  still  there  in  last  pic,  healthy  &  has  a  decent  growth.  Its  hidden  behind  the  red  lilly  plant.  Since  I  am  not  dosing  Micro/Macros...the  color  of  plant  has  faded  to  greenish  red.
I  am  planning  to  dose  Seachem  Iron  to  help  the  plant  retain  its  original  color.

Lot  of  people  use  PLLs  and  have  good  results.  They  are  certainly  a  good  option  to  consider.  I  have  used  them  personally  and  have  had  good  results.

Pio  ,  I  use  36  w  X  2  Pll  lights  to  my  tank..  I  run  for  8  hrs  daily  by  shifts.   The  results  are  good  and  its  cool  light  too.   IMO,  Even,  it  consumes  less  power  compare  to  others.

check  my  Tank.   I  used  PLL  only.

 Hi  Veeral,

Any  worst  evidence  you  have  to  support?  LED's  are  still  evolving  for  planted  tanks  and  still  relatively  costlier  on  the  pocket.

coming  to  the  original  query  -
My  tank  with  a  6500k  PLL,  all  details  are  in  the  thread  -

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=29974

I  would  say  if  the  tank  size  is  around  2ft  it  makes  sence  to  go  with  PLL  lights,  bigger  tanks  with  more  height  T5/HO  are  good  option.

regarding  your  question  on  red  plants  -  my  experience  says  it  purely  depends  upon  dosing  and  intensity  of  light,  kelvin  rating  of  tube  does  not  make  any  difference,  be  it  PLL  or  T5/HO  and  may  be  LED.

 Cheers,
 Binesh

Hey  Pio  !!  Instead  of  PLLs  go  for  T5  tubelights.  You  get  them  in  an  all  in  one  unit  for  a  very  reasonable  price.  Go  for  Pride  brand  which  should  be  available  at  most  electrical  shops.  Available  in  both  14w  2ft  and  8w  1ft.  These  are  the  lights  Im  using  on  my  tank  since  the  past  few  years.  You  have  seen  my  tank  for  yourself.  Dosing  EI  and  CO2  and  at  about  2.2  WPG.  For  a  low  tech  go  for  1-1.5  WPG  with  these  and  it  should  be  all  good

PLLs  :  I  was  using  PLLS  on  my  old  1ft  nano.  Growth  was  good  but  a  much  higher  wattage  was  needed

Well  Plls  need  to  be  changed  every  year  and  sometimes  every  6  months....  led  flood  lights  cost  no  more  than  a  good  brand  pll  and  they  give  out  same  intensity  for  more  than  2  yrs......  plls  give  out  heat,  leds  dont....  i  have  used  12000k  plls  for  3yrs  and  then  when  i  shifted  to  led,  i  never  turned  back...

 Sorry  for  the  late  reply

Thanks  Abhijit  -  Seen  your  journal.  Nice  progress  you  made  on  your  tank.  Clapping
Good  to  know  that  PLL's  work  well.  I  will  want  some  direction  on  how  to  install  those  fans  as  I  have  a  similar  triangular  roof  top  hood  too.
How  was  the  progress  of  your  red  plants  ?

 Thanks  Veeral
Will  move  to  LED  when  the  moolah/dough  is  better.  That  will  be  the  ultimate  aim  some  day.  and  you  will  be  my  advisor     Thumb Up

Thanks  hnabhi  -  Your  tank  looks  lush  too   Clapping

Thanks  Ganesh  -  I'm  sure  youve  progress  much  further   Cheer

Thanks  Binesh  -  That  was  a  nice  journal  and  guide  too  Thumb Up   Clapping

Thanks  Nirant   -  Yep  I've  seen  your  tank   Rock On   Clapping

In  my  2  footer  I  already  have  experimented  with  T5  and  T8.  Azoo  Regular  and  Aquastar  Sylvania  and  Azoo  Coral  Blue  Light.

My  substrate  in  my  2  footer  is  Regular  Flourite  and  in  the  1.5  footers  have  mix  of  Azoo  and  Regular  Flourite.  I  also  dose  liquid  CO2  from  Azoo.  In  all  the  tanks.

Currently  I  have  the  twin  Oreva  10  x  2  Watts  on  my  1.5  footers.  Since  they  stopped  making  them  I've  replaced  some  of  the  10  W  tubes  with  some  8  Watt  Taj  Lite  Flourescents.  Have  not  clue  about  these  lights  but  they  have  been  working  well  for  me.  Plants  being  Water  Wisteria,  Red  Watermilfoil,  Tall  Thin  Leaf  &  Broad  Leaf  Saggitaria,  They  grow  crazy  with  the  micro  /  macro  dosings  too.

Once  these  lights  phase  out  their  life.  I  wanted  to  experiment  with  PLLs  on  my  1.5  footers  with  Osrams  18W  and  36W  which  I  have  2  of  each  with  me  ready.
So  was  planning  to  keep  one  1.5  footer  low  light  and  one  1.5  footer  high  light   Confused??:

 Some  questions  to  all
 1)  Do  PLL's  work  well  for  Red  Plants  if  you  control  the  macro  dosing  ?
 2)  I  would  like  any  suggestions  based  on  the  lighting  I  have  to  make  one  1.5  footer  high  light  with  micro-macro  nutrient  dosings  and  liquid  Azoo  Carbon.  What  carpet  plants  would  be  best  and  what  red  plants  would  suit  ?

 Thanks  Guys
