Have  any  one  tried  drinking  soda  as  a  supplement  of  diffused  CO2.

Because,  the  normal  drinking  Soda  contains  diffused  CO2  gas  into  the  water.  So  why  can  we  Use  it  as  a  supplement  of  CO2  dosage.?

 Experts  Please  advise.....  Bow

 One  -  cost

Two  -  the  CO2  level  will  not  be  consistent  over  a  period  of  time.

Three  -  Commercially  available  drinking  soda  is  not  just  water+CO2  ,  it  has  additives  as  well.

 Hi  Ganesaa,
There  was  a  discussion  in  the  old  posts  regarding  the  same  (  couldn't  dig  out  now  ,  though  I  tried  to  )  and  expert  was  in  the  opinion  of  co2  level  consistency  couldn't  be  maintained,  as  pouring  of  soda  water  will  cause  a  co2  spike  but  wont  sustain  levels  for  a  period

 Hello  Ganesaa,
Apuda2010  points  are  all  valid.  I  have  experimented  with  carbonated  water  from  soda  maker.  But  that  was  only  to  induce  more  growth  of  ricca.  There  were  no  fishes  in  the  tank.  As  Apuda2010  said  there  will  be  spikes  and  dips  in  the  co2  levels.  The  spikes  were  evident  with  the  ricca  pearling  say  in  about  2-3  hours  time.

I  guess  all  this  is  an  effort  to  save  the  capital  cost  of  buying  a  pressurized  kit.

Apart  from  negative  points  noted  by  other  posters,  adding  soda  water  will  suddenly  shift  the  PH  level  downward  and  the  gas  will  fiz  out  in  few  minutes  again  shooting  the  PH  to  normal.

pressurized  co2  is  best  way  of  growing  aquatic  plants  in  case  if  you  are  not  using  and  intend  to  have  one  I  can  help  you  out/guide  for  a  low  cost  possible  assembly  of  components.

I  tried  it  the  other  way  around.

Used  a  ceramic  atomiser,  a  no-return  valve  fitted  to  the  inner  side  of  a  pet  bottle  lid  and  a  CO2  supply  through  a  needle  valve  fitted  to  my  CO2  cylinder  to  make  aerated  squash.

 It  works.  Smile

Well  it  can  be  mixed  with  liquor  but  drinking  it  as  a  supplement  for  co2  is  not  recommended  Thumb Up
