Hi,  got  some  nice  bogwoods  and  rocks  from  my  Sikkim  tour   Very Happy   Here  are  some  pictures:

These  rocks  are  easily  breakable  and  there  is  a  silvery  shine  on  these.  Any  idea  what  this  silver  material  is?  Will  it  be  harmful  for  fishes  and  plants?  The  silver  material  sticks  to  my  hand  like  silver  dust?  Is  it  mercury?

 Here  are  the  bogwoods:

The  moss  growing  on  the  wood:

the  rock  looks  lase  with  either  mercury  or    ..IMO  do  not  use  that  rock  and  if  my  hunch  is  correct  keep  it  away  from  you  and  your  family  and  especially  away  from  water  source  in  the  house  as  it  can  cause  serious  poisoning.  I  would  request  you  to  do  a  muratic  acid  test  on  all  rocks  to  verify  if  they  are  fine  or  not.

 *  i  tried  to  add  another  metal  name  from  the  periodic  table  but  it  seems  the  forum  policies  are  barring  my  post  to  be  shown  -  never  the  less  in  short  do  not  use  that  rock

sometimes  these  bog  wood  if  used  in  water  or  thrown  out  in  sunlight   it  will  disintegrate.
try  this  method  put  them  in  a  bucket  of  water  till  it  submerges  for  a  month  and  then  dry  them  completely  in  sunlight.the  wood  wood  become  rock  solid  and  will  also  retain  its  shape  and  texture.now  its  good  go  in  aquariums
this  is  how  i  did  it.

Try  hydrochloric  acid.  Drop  a  few  drops  on  the  rock.  And  if  it  fizzes  that  means  the  rock  is  not  inert.  It  will  change  the  ph  value.
 only  use  inert  rocks.
