 Hi  Friends,

Which  is  the  smallest  wave-maker  that  I  can  get  from  the  market?  How  expensive  it  would  be.  Any  body  have  used  any  nano  wave-makers  in  the  their  marine/freshwater  tanks?

 @  GatorX,

Thanks  for  the  suggestion.  Had  you  ever  found  these  pumps  in  Indian  LFS?  Or  have  you  brought  it  from  abroad?

I  am  planning  to  use  this  in  my  planted  tank  to  increase  the  flow  inside  the  tank.  My  tank  gallon  is  67.  (36"Lx24"Wx18"H).  Any  suggestions?

Why  dont  you  buy  a  power  head  from  boyu  from  prabhus  store....  The  reason  I  suggested  his  store  is  that  I  found  a  power  head  there  that  doesnt  take  air  from  outside  to  pump  so  no  problem  of  excess  oxigination.  It  is  small  also

 Shelly,

 I  have  a  tank  with  exact  same  dimensions  but  36"L  18"W  24"H.

Got  Hydor  Koralia  2  (not  nano)  and  its  almost  useless  in  terms  of  flow  rate.  For  a  67gallon  tank  Koralia  3  (atleast)  might  have  been  better.  Then  got  a  used  one  from  Beta  (Sunsun  or  similar)  and  it  does  a  really  good  job.  The  flow  might  be  little  more  for  your  planted  tanks  in  my  opinion.  The  cost  of  the  Chinese  one  should  be  in  3figures.

Difference  between  Hydor  and  chinese  one  -
Sometimes  the  flow  direction  reverses  in  Hydor  (might  be  a  feature  for  marine  tanks).  This  does  not  happen  in  the  chinese  wavemaker  (which  I  feel  is  good  for  freshwater  tanks)
Hydor  might  be  more  efficient  in  terms  of  power  consumption
The  magnetic  grip  of  the  chinese  wavemaker  is  much  better  than  Hydor  (for  12mm  glass)

I  am  using  a  powerhead  in  my  nano  marine.  Is  air  from  outside  undesirable  in  a  marine  tank?  Can  we  block  the  air  pipe  so  that  air  from  outside  doesnt  enter.

 @  Jaiby,

The  reason  I  didn't  want  to  use  the  power  head  is  that  the  wattage  of  power  heads  are  more  and  bulky.  Have  not  seen  any  nano  version  of  power  heads.

 @  Deepak,

Thanks  for  the  information.  I  am  looking  into  two  factors  in  this  order:

 1.  Power  consumption:  I  need  the  equipment  wattage  as  low  as  possible  since  I  intend  to  run  the  wave  maker  24/7  or  least  during  the  lighting  period.  But  I  plan  to  run  24/7  mostly.  So  lower  the  wattage,  lesser  the  power  consumption.

 2.  Flow  rate:  Looking  at-least  6-8  times  the  tank  gallon.  As  I  plan  to  use  this  only  to  increase  the  flow  inside  the  tank.  As  I  already  have  the  canister  filter  running  for  the  tank  24/7,  need  some  more  flow.

Could  you  please  let  me  know  which  version  of  sun  sun  is  what  you  have  mentioned  above.  Would  see  if  it  would  suite  my  purpose.

The  Koralia  2  is  a  115v  version  that  I  have.  Its  rated  at  9w  for  600gph  (230v  version  has  4.5w  with  2300lph  in  specs).
The  newer  versions  seem  to  be  more  efficient.

 The  chinese  model  is  JVP-102  12w  5000lph

I  used  these  two  with  2217  in  the  tank.  My  barilius  used  to  love  the  flow  from  sunsun.

Do  you  really  think  that  a  power  head  needs  to  take  air  from  outside  to  pump  water?   Shocked
