It  did  eliminate  hair  algae...just  include  few  algae  eaters  before  the  you  start  the  black-out,  it  would  reduce  the  duration  of  blackout  and  increase  the  success  rate  too  Smile...

For  Hair  algae,  your  hungry  fishes  will  do  the  job..it  is  good  to  includes  few  ottos  though   Very Happy

@  Unni...I  am  not  an  expert   Sad......but  I  have  seen  very  fine  layer  of  green  hair  grown  on  the  bogwood.....wherein  few  ottos  were  munching  on  it...the  wood  was  clean  in  few  days  then,  not  sure  whether  ottos/bristlenose/amano/red  cherry  ate  that...any  pointer's  on  what  kind  of  algae  the  algae-eater  eat  would  be  of  definite  help   Very Happy

My  idea  is  to  have  few  algae-eaters  to  clean  up  the  algae  dying  off...i  did  see  neon  rainbows  eating  dying-off  hair-algae  when  left  without  food  during  the  blackout  period..

 Regards,
 Senthil

I  can  imagine  your  frustration  on  seeing  algae  covering  all  those  precious  plants  but  on  the  upside  you  have  figured  out  a  solution  to  get  rid  of  em...  Thumb Up  without  any  chemicals...  I  do  mean  to  ask  you,  did  the  algae  return  or  are  you  running  the  tank  algae  free.  I  doubt  the  spores  would  die  during  the  blackout.  If  so,  then  any  imbalance  could  trigger  them  back...just  a  thought!

 Wam  Regards,
 Aditya

 hey  Aditya,

That's  a  valid  point,  Algae  can  never  be  eradicated,  but  you  can  keep  them  at  bay  by  maintaining  the  right  parameters.  I  started  EI  dosing  after  the  black-out  period  and  have  algae  crew  working  hard  to  keep  a  check  on  them,  I  occasionally  see  fine  green  hair  on  drift  wood,  but  the  same  would  be  gone  in  a  day  or  two.  green  spots  on  glass  appear  rarely...very  few,  i  scrub  it  off  with  magnetic  scrub.  Else  the  plants  and  fishes  are  healthy,  as  i  stopped  playing  with  CO2  levels   Very Happy

 Regards,
 Senthil

 hi  yadnesh,

I  rescaped  my  planted  tank,  it  was  just  3  weeks  old  then,  but  i  did  not  have  any  algae  issues,  until  i  introduced  a  plant  with  algae..i  suppose  it  had  lot  of  spores  in  it!!!!   Sad

btw  I  never  had  new  tank  syndrome   Smile....

Lesson  learnt  make  sure  you  examine  the  plants  for  possible  algae  and  give  PP  bath  before  you  introduce  new  plants  in  the  aquarium.

 Regards,
 Senthil.
