 So......here  goes,

There  was  a  long  pending  request  by  ASK/IAH  members  from  Bangalore  for  a  collection  trip.  In  response  to  that  a  trip  was  planned,  taking  into  account  the  long  weekend  afforded  to  us  by  the  Harvest  festival-Sankranti/Pongal.

Got  up  at  4.00am,  left  house  with  Ravindra  at  5.00am,  collected  Jaiby(Jabba)  from  Manyata  embassy  at  5.15am.  He  was  a  early  bird  since  he  had  reached  the  place  well  ahead  of  time.  Nearing  metro  on  Kanakapura  road  gave  a  call  to  Nikhil  at  5.45am.  Along  with  Nikhil  reached  the  Nice  road  junction  at  sharp  6.00am  and  waited  for  the  arrival  of  the  next  three  cars.  Satyanarayan  arrived  along  with  Deepakg  and  Kumaran(Cinciboy)  at  6.15am.  Nidhi  came  on  his  bike.  At  6.30am  Binesh  arrived  with  Prashanta(Kuna).  Got  a  call  from  Vimal  to  proceed  and  that  they  will  catch  up  later.

So  the  Gang  at  6.30am.  No  sun  yet....

When  filling  up  the  car  tanks  at  6.50am  Vimal(Imperator),  Hayath  and  Ashwin(Mandragoran)  caught  up  with  us.  ¬†Started  driving  towards  Kanakapura  and  were  rewarded  with  this  beautiful  sunrise  on  the  Horizon.  7.00am

Reached  Kanakapura  at  7.15am  and  Abhilash  was  waiting  for  us.  He  had  rode  his  Bullet  bike  from  Mysore  to  Kanakapura.  Had  good  breakfast  at  Vasu  hotel  in  kanakapura,  where  Deepakg  filmed  us  hogging  the  food  Chuckle   On  a  full  stomach  set  off  for  the  first  water  body  of  the  day.  A  bridge  just  after  Halagur  town.  Deepakg  must  have  seen  the  Channa  here.  8.28am

 The  guys  checking  the  stream....

The  water  was  teeming  with  Pethia  conchonius(Rosy  barb),  Gambusia  and  Tilapia.  The  first  place  where  Nikhil  used  his  cast  net.  My  past  life  flashed  before  my  eyes,  where  a  few  of  us  could  hold  the  mosquito  net  at  a  vantage  place  and  the  rest  beating  the  water  to  chase  the  barbs  into  the  net.  With  great  difficulty  and  if  we  were  lucky  we  would  catch  a  couple  of  fishes  for  every  try.  But  Nikhil  and  his  cast  net,  it  was  minimum  10  per  cast  Very Happy
Also  caught  by  hand  nets  were  Gambusia,  shrimps  and  two  Tilapa  fry.  8.40am.

 To  be  continued....

I  missed  it  Sad  Would  have  loved  the  experience  on  catching  fishes  ...
Looks  like  it  was  a  fantastic  Sunday   Clapping

I  had  gone  to  Goa  over  the  weekend  with  my  wife  and  actually  dived  into  one  of  the  streams  to  catch  fishes  Very Happy
They  were  so  many  beautiful  killies  ...  But  I  couldn't  catch  any  (  I  was  not  prepared  )...
I  did  catch  a  dozen  schooling  fishes  waiting  for  Identification  ...  Will  post  the  pics  soon  Smile

 Next  stop  at  9.45am.  Shivanasamudram.
L  to  R:  Deepakg,  Satyanarayan,  Kmaran,  Prashanta,  Binesh,  Ashwin,  Nidhi,  Abhilash,  Hayath,  Vimal,  Nikhil,  Jaiby  and  the  boy  at  the  front  Ravindra.

 Checking  the  thickets,  Binesh.

Treading  cautiously  in  the  treacherously  slippery  rocks

Hey  look,  Badis  badis.  Me  and  Nikhil,  Naah!  Must  be  Pseudosphromenus  cupanus.

But  it  was  Badis  badis.  Jaiby  turned  out  to  be  a  Badis  magnet.  Deepakg  doing  the  Gangnam  style  in  Joy  Very Happy

Indulgent  smile  on  the  face  of  the  veterans  at  the  ecstasy  of  the  newly  blooded  Fishchasers

Unaffected  by  all  the  excitement  around  him,  Ravindra  busy  catching  Gambusia,  A.  lineatus  and  A.  blockii.

 To  be  continued....

Great,  the  story  telling  has  begun  :)

Just  a  summary  of  what  me  and  Nayak  were  discussing....

The  Badis  badis  is  interesting,  it  is  fast  dispersing.  I  feel  it  could  be  due  to  some  river  interlinking  done  somewhere  up  north.

There  could  be  an  impact  cause  Badis  though  small  are  micro  predators.  They  go  for  eggs  and  maybe  juvies  of  other  small  species.

We  saw  a  old  dilapidated  foot  bride  at  a  distance.  The  river  flowed  through  it.  Decided  to  explore  it....

The  typical  posture.  When  you  see  the  backend  of  the  fishchasers  pointing  to  the  sun,  you  can  be  sure  they  are  busy  at  work  catching  fishes!

 The  shutter  bugs  in  action.

A  view  of  the  Cauvery  river  in  all  her  Majesty.  See  a  chap  washing  a  goat  at  the  right  hand  corner.  The  goat  was  thinking  that  the  boy  was  drowning  it  and  was  bleating  in  terror.

 The  other  Shutter  bug,  Abhilash.

 Nidhi,  checking  the  catch....

Happy  Ravindra,  since  he  caught  a  good  number  of  fish.  See  the  Vallisneria  in  the  water?

Satyanarayan,  Kumaran  and  Nidhi  check  the  holding  packets.

Nikhil  and  Hayath  check  out  the  rapids  a  bit  further.  Most  probably  hey  saw  the  Channa  marulius  here.

11.30am.  Finally  done  with  this  spot  the  health  concious  dehydrated  Fishchasers  enjoying  tender  Coconut.

 To  be  continued......

Leaving  Shivanasamudram  we  set  off  for  the  next  Waterbody.  Being  the  Harvest  season  all  the  harvested  crops  were  piled  on  the  roads,  an  efficient  and  cheap  way  to  separate  the  wheat  from  he  chaff,  so  to  say  Very Happy

Our  Shutter  bugs  in  Hayath's  car  were  split  from  us  since  they  stopped  to  click  the  fabulous  panoramic  views  en-route.

 12.24pm.  Talakadu,  Cauvery  river.

There  was  a  huge  number  of  people  taking  bath  or  playing  by  the  river.  We  had  to  trek  for  around  half  a  Kilometer  before  we  found  a  likely  spot.  Our  own  private  beach  Chuckle

There  was  lush  growth  of  aquatic  plants,  and  we  found  these  Egrets  and  terns  waiting  for  their  next  fishy  snack.

The  plants  found  and  collected  were  Ceratophyllum  demersum,  Potamogeton  crispus,  Potomogeton  pectinatus,  Pistia  stratiotes,  Salvinia  and  a  couple  of  un-id'ied  ones.

By  now  the  Fishchasers  were  already  on  the  job.  Trust  me,  these  new  Fishchasers¬©  had  taken  to  Fishchasing  like....like....fish  to  water  Clapping

The  only  guy  disappointed  was  Ravindra,  since  there  was  no  place  for  him  to  trap  the  fish  in  his  hand  net.  But  the  consolation,  he  got  to  play  in  the  water.

Asking  the  Guys  to  take  care  of  my  Kiddo(Like  Deepakg  called  him)  I  set  out  in  search  of  Vimal,  Hayath  and  Ashwin.  Saw  them  sitting  in  a  shade  watching  the  people  bathing  and  playing  by  the  river.  So  the  gang  was  together  again.

By  now  it  was  1.30pm.  time  to  wrap  up  at  this  place  and  head  for  Lunch.

 Before  Lunch.  The  starving  lot.

After  Lunch.  The  satiated  lot  except  for  Ashwin.  He  did  not  get  his  buttermilk  Sad

The  drivers  did  not  eat  to  their  full  since  they  still  had  to  drive  in  the  blazing  Sun  to  Muthathi.  The  passengers  had  the  luxury  of  catching  a  short  wink  and  nod  which  the  Drivers  didn't.
Hey,  you  passengers  owe  the  Drivers  a  lunch  at  leisure  Very Happy

 To  be  continued....

This  is  the  beauty...  Nayak  you  rocks   Thumb Up  lovely  narration.
Each  one  of  us  enjoyed  the  trip...
Here  is  my  update  regarding  the  fishes  that  I  took  for  my  fish  room.
 -  All  the  Shrimps  got  a  new  tank  (18X18X18)  -  this  is  a  temp  arrangement...Later  they  will  be  shifting  to  there  respective  places.
 -  Four  Badis  are  in  my  4feet  planted  tank....Soon  they  will  be  transfer  to  there  new  home  (a  18X18X18  planted  tank)
 -  Nayak  was  kind  enough  to  keep  my  part  of  Rosy  barbs  in  his  fish  room  for  few  weeks  as  my  new  3feet  tank  will  be  ready  in  a  week  or  two.  Was  planing  for  a  discuss  tank  but  after  seeing  the  Rosy  Barbs  I  change  my  mind  and  now  my  new  3feet  tank  will  be  a  home  for  12  Odessa  barbs  and  7  Rosy  barbs   Cheering  .  Thanks  Nayak  for  the  help  and  thanks  Nikil  for  his  netting  skills   Thumb Up
Ahh  how  can  I  forget  Jabba  and  Bineah,  because  of  them  we  got  planty  of  Badis   Very Happy

 2.45pm-4.30pm

Entered  the  road  to  Muthathi  and  were  in  high  spirits.  But  our  Shutter  bugs  had  vanished  again.
Came  across  the  first  board,  "  No  fishing  in  the  river"  and  was  surprised  since  it  was  not  there  the  last  time  we  had  made  a  visit.
After  a  Kilometer  we  came  across  another  similar  board  again  with  another  sign  "Kollegal  wildlife  reserve"  added  for  good  measure.
Here  I  was  with  a  Car  carrying  nets  and  packets  in  a  reserve  forest.  The  real  fun  started  when  we  were  stopped  by  the  forest  guard.  He  checked  the  two  cars  in  front  of  me,  belonging  to  Satyanarayan  and  Binesh.

He  slowly  walked  to  my  car,  with  me  all  the  time  trying  to  appear  nonchalant.  Peeped  in  and  waved  us  away.  Thank  my  Lucky  stars.

We  scooted  out  of  that  place  as  fast  as  our  cars  could  carry  us  on  a  miserably  potholed  road.  "With  our  tails  firmly  tucked  between  our  legs"  as  Trevor  wold  have  put  it.  Did  not  stop  till  we  reached  Kanakapura  main  road.  Contacted  Vimal  after  several  tries,  since  there  was  no  cell  phone  coverage  in  some  of  those  places  and  conveyed  our  forced  change  of  plans  Chuckle

Tried  another  spot  on  the  road   towards  Bangalore,  but  it  had  dried  up.

Finally  halted  at  a  hotel  just  before  Bangalore  by  which  time  Hayath  caught  up  with  us.  Everyone  had  some  Manchurian(Gobi  and  Paneer)  and  Coffee  and  Tea.  Shared  the  promptly  marked  packets  among  us,  which  brings  us  to  that  famous  incident  where  Deepakg  got  frantic  on  not  finding  his  priceless  badis  badis  packet  Chuckle

 That's  all  from  me.

Just  wait  for  the  real  pictorial  feast  from  Vimal  stan(Imperator)

 Regards,
