I  have  24'L*12'W*15'H  artificial  tank  with  UG  filter.  But  for  better  performance  i  have  decided  to  add  DIY  top  filter.  Whether  the  use  of  UG  &  Top  filter  will  be  suitable?  If  yes,  for  how  much  time  the  Top  filter  should  be  on???

To  answer  your  Q,  u  may  also  have  to  give  some  more  informations  like,  what  fish  r  u  having?  Do  u  have  plants  in  it?  How  many  fish  r  there  in  it?  Etc..  Etc..  Anyhow,  I  would  suggest  to  take  out  the  UGF  and  use  only  the  Top  Filter..  What  is  the  capacity  of  the  Powerhead?

What  do  you  mean  by  artificial  aquarium?

Any  filter  is  typically  meant  to  be  running  24/7.

There  is  nothing  called  over  filtration.   Basically  the  litre/gallon  per  hour  turnover  is  decided  based  on  your  stock.   May  be  some  extra  details  on  your  UGF  and  fish  stock  will  help.

well  keluthi,  you  have  to  give  it  to  him.  It  really  is  a  matter  of  choice  &  taste.
you  may  be  a  planted  tank  guy.  But  not  all  are.  And  a  lot  of  people  like  a  really  colourful  tank.  That's  up  to  them.  As  long  as  the  fish  are  happy  &  healthy,  we  cannot  question  people's  tastes.

@Athreyan:  k,  I  give  it  up.  He  he  he..
And,  I'm  not  a  complete  planted  tank  guy.  A  couple  of  years  before  I  was  in  the  stage  of  a  Beginner  aquarist(!).  Only  after  getting  known  about  sites  like  these  I  gradually  worked  towards  keeping  a  successful  planted  tank.  And..eh...  Well  I  think  that's  enough,  I  think  I'm  going  out  of  this  thread,  jst  wanted  to  say  something..

MY  GOD!!!   Surprised   Surprised   Surprised   Surprised   Surprised   Surprised

Kapa!?!?!?!  Is  that  one  tank  you're  referring  to?!?!?!

I  think  you  should  name  your  tank;  the  blood  bath  tub.  What  are  you  doing?

FIRSTLY...  you're  WAY  OVERSTOCKED...  NO...  Your  tank  =  (WAY  OVERSTOCKED  *  n)

Let  me  gather  my  shocked  brain  together  &  then  try  to  explain  what  best  I  can...

KOI  fish...  only  for  ponds...  need  1000s  of  gallons
OSCAR...  I  think  it  needs  at  least  a  50G  tank  (not  sure, never  had  an  oscar)
The  CICHLID...  itself  may  need  a  20G
Nevermind  the  Mollies  (I'll  explain  in  a  bit)

AND  that  is  just  one  of  your  problems...
I'm  wondering  how  your  oscar  has  not  gobbled  up  every  other  fish  in  that  tank  yet.  That's  why  I  didn't  mind  the  mollies.
 Ditto  for  the  Cichlid.

for  that  kind  of  stocking,  you'll  need  the  same  measurements  in  metres,  not  feet.  And  still  you  cannot  keep  the  koi.

I  know  that  a  good  many  of  us  overstock  (I'm  guilty  of  that  too).  But  that  is  just  stratospheric!

Please  don't  bother  about  the  filtration...  The  fish  will  will  die  in  any  case.

Also,  from  your  profile,  i  understand  that  you  have  continuously  posted  about  sick  fish  &  fish  deaths.  AND  you  have  been  continuously  given  good  advise  regarding  livestock  &  fish  loads.  YET  you  have  continuously  kept  adding  fish.

 +1  Athreyan.

That's  why  they  say,  do  some  researching  before  buying  any  fish  or  plants..
