Hi  Abhradip,

 Nice  progress...

During  DSM,  what  type  of  light  do  you  use?  Could  you  please  give  me  some  tips?
I  took  a  similar  sized  tank  &  have  planted  HC  Cuba  with  the  substrate  as  Contro  Soil.  Its  been  quite  sometime  but  couldn't  see  any  progress.  I  spray  water  everyday  &  have  tied  the  tank  with  a  cover  so  that  moisture  doesn't  escape.

I  have  kept  this  setup  in  terrace  where  there  is  diffused  sunlight  for  say  6  hours.

 Regards,
 ABHILASH

Hey  Abhilash  -  for  DSM  or  submerged  state  in  both  cases  I  used  the  same  11W  CFL  of  6500K  color  temperature.  The  trick  with  DSM  is  true  to  lock  in  moisture,  but  you  must  open  the  saran  wrap  for  atleast  30  mins  everyday  so  that  atmospheric  CO2  can  be  accumulated  inside  the  tank  for  next  day's  photo-period.  I  spray/mist  the  tank  with  not  simple  water  -  I  spray  the  water  which  has  a  mixture  of  macro+micro+flourish  excel  added  to  it  in  minute  quantity  for  faster  growth,  nad  yes,  for  HC  DSM  takes  time  if  you  are  trying  it  for  the  first  time,  you'll  get  you  hands  in  a  couple  of  attempts.

Hi  Zico  Smile  I  mostly  follow  your  articles  n  comments.  So  i  keep  bugging  you  with  my  stupid  questions  Razz  Anywayz  I  am  also  a  cube  n  a  moss  fanatic.  i  got  some  success  in  cube  planted  tank  but  due  to  lack  of  time  i  always  fail  in  bigger  tanks.  I  wanted  to  know
 1)  Can  i  grow  HC  with  DIY  CO2  n  PC  fans  ???     Confused  i  will  start  with  DSM  as  i  have  read  from  your  articles  regarding  DSM.  so  if  by  luck  HC  grows  in  DSM  ....can  i  grow  them  in  DIY  Co2  ???
 2)  Every  time  i  grow  Riccia  ....n  Java  moss  or  pelia  it  gets  Algae  ....any  suggestions  or  tips  n  tricks  ???

 1)  Growing  HC  via  DSM  is  a  piece  of  cake,  no  hassle  at  all  but  DIY  CO2  might  work  if  the  tank  is  like  really  small,  as  DIY  has  a  lot  of  level  fluctuation  which  results  in  cuba  failing,  if  you  are  adding  DIY  CO2  add  excel  with  that  you  can  achieve  success  to  a  better  extent  than  just  using  DIY  CO2.

 2)  suggestion  for  algae  for  moss/riccia  -  your  fluctuating  DIY  CO2  level  is  your  culprit,  all/most  algae  happens  due  to  imbalance  of  CO2  injection  with  light  and  fert  imbalance.  So  provide  CO2  on  a  stable-r'  level  and  go  easy  on  ferts  provide  half  the  recommended  dosing  and  lower  down  light  intensity  -  goal  is  as  CO2  is  less  lets  reduce  the  other  factors  that  increase  the  photosynthetic/nutrient  intake  capacity  of  plants  so  that  the  available  nutrient  depletion  happens  in  slower  and  taken  up  by  plants  and  algae  growth  is  diminished.

And  yeah  forgot  one  thing  to  mention  -  Get  a  good  flow  around  the  moss,  they  are  dirt  magnets  so  as  long  they  are  clean  they  not  only  look  good  but  also  stops  becoming  the  breeding  ground  for  algae.

 Abhradip,

yep,,they  fall  in  the  initial  phases  at  times..but  what  I  do  is  like..when  I  put  a  stone  to  stop  the  substrate..I  also  add  small  pieces  of  plastic  cuts  and  keep  them  supported  to  the  hidden  part  of  the  rocks  so,  any  substrate  falling  falls  in  the  small  gap  that's  there  between  the  rock  an'  sand..
