 Hey  Caesar,

I'm  sure  those  2  fishes  are  Maylandia  lombardoi..  really  sure  cause  i  have  them  in  my  Mbunas  Cichlid  tank...
All  the  best  with  them,  they  have  aggressive  personalities  and  have  killed  my  Melanochromis  auratus.
The  males  have  a   bright  yellow  base  with  faded  dark  bars  and  the  female  having  a  rich  sky  blue  base  with  faded  dark  barring.
Hope  this  info  was  of  some  use  to  you.

 Regards
 Deepak

Thanks  Deepak22  indeed  my  "mystery  fish"  are  a  pair  of  Maylandia  Lombardi  aka  "Kenyi  cichlids"..what  else  have  you  kept  in  your  tank?  if  possible  post  an  FTS  and  tank  specs  pls..fish  looking  awesome..

Now  i  know  why  the  male  kenyi  has  been  chasing  everything  that  moves  in  the  tank..it  has  established  it  self  in  the  grand  center  of  the  tank  and  would  not  allow  any  to  encroach  its  space..

do  you  guys  think  i  should  return  this  pair  considering  there  are  gonna  be  jewel  cichlid  fry  in  the  tank  very  soon  and  the  kenyi  are  known  to  be  aggressive  species?  Also  they  can  get  to  upto  6inch  that  would  be  a  problem  anyways  in  the  future..

Nice  talking  to  you  too.....

It  seems  that  you  have  brought  these  rocks  from  Naya  Raipur....

These  days  I'm  having  many  trips  to  Champaranya  and  Rajim,  I  also  have  thought  to  to  bring  these  Murrum  (laterite)  rocks!  They  give  nice  feel  to  Aquarium.

yup  these  are  from  naya  raipur  area..and  they  do  look  nice  in  the  tank..just  one  thing  though  when  you  go  to  collect  them,  just  try  and  break  them  by  hand  or  by  dropping  them..many  of  them  are  too  brittle  and  just  crumble  and  will  foul  your  tank  water..the  ones  which  are  older(?)  and  more  cohesive  and  harder  and  have  awesome  structure  and  patterns...

Both  Videos  are  VERY  NICE!

Pls  keep  Eye  as  bigger  fishes  will  have  Party  Time  once  fries  will  visit  your  aquarium!

You  will  need  a  separate  tank  (smaller  one)  for  these  fries!

If  your  require  help  I'm  on!  You  can  have  one  DIY  Aquarium  may  be  (18"x12"x12")  for  these  fries!

I  can  help  you  for  this  as  I've  silicon  lying  with  me!

Thanks  for  the  generous  offer  vishal   Thumb Up  ..im  still  unable  to  decide  whether  to  house  them  in  a  separate  tank..my  tank  is  understocked  and  the  other  fish  are  really  not  troubling  the  eggs  till  now  and  the  parents  are  very  actively  protecting  them..whats  troubling  me  more  right  now  is  the  newly  identified  pair  of  Kenyi  cichlids  as  they  are  notoriously  aggressive..still  waiting  to  make  a  call  on  them..

will  surely  contact  you  to  take  up  your  offer  if  a  decide  for  a  separate  tank..  Thumbs Up

 Hey  Caesar,

With  them  i  was  able  to  keep  Melanochromis  auratus  for  a  few  weeks  till  my  male  Kenyi  Cichlid  became  way  too  aggressive  and  killed  3  of  my  male  Melanochromis  auratus. So  now  its  only  my  male  kenyi  cichlids  with  4  female  kenyi  cichlids.

I  think  it  is  best  if  you  remove  them  as  I've  told  and  its  always  better  to  keep  a  ratio  of  1  male  to  3  to  5  female  cause  the  male  keeps  chasing  them  around  and  they  get  stressed  out  really  fast.  Ive  tried  putting  dither  fish  fishes  in  the  aquarium  but  it  of  no  big  use  in  the  long  run  cause  they  do  get  killed  or  stressed  out.

So  my  advice  to  you  is  to  remove  them  ASAP.

This  is  a  FTS  of  my  tank  where  my  Kenyi  are  currently  being  housed, its  a  18  inch  cube,  i  know  its  a  bit  small  for  my  kenyi  ,Ive  ordered  for  a  3  foot  one  but  its  taking  for  ever  to  be  made  by  my  LFS.

Hope  this  info  was  of  some  use  to  you.
 All  the  Best   Thumb Up

How  you  could  identify  male  &  females  at  such  a  small  size?  Help

Pls  tell  me  as  I'm  planning  to  have  these  soon  in  my  30"x12"x15"  Aquarium.

 Hey  vsrajput

The  males  have  a   bright  orange  base  with  faded  dark  bars  and  the  female  having  a  rich  sky  blue  base  with  faded  dark  barring.
Note:  females  and  juvenile  males  are  pale  white-blue  with  several  blue-black  vertical  bands  extending  into  the  dorsal  fin  once  the  male  maturity  it  turn  bright  yellow  with  faint  brown  bars  crossing  the  body, fins  are  plain  yellow  with  egg  spots  on  the  anal  fin.
Note  2:The  males  tend  to  change  colour  or  may  not  turn  bright  yellow  when  they  are  other  aggressive  male  kenyi  cichlid  in  the  same  tank.
Buy  them  when  they  are  about  3  inches  in  length  cause  most  of  the  males  would  have  changed  colour  by  then.  If  your  planning  to  breed  them  its  better  to  pick  them  individually  from  different  LFS.
Plz  read  my  previous  post  to  know  more  bout  them.
And  PM  me  the  price  of  the  fish  when  you  pick  them  up(Just  for  my  knowledge).
All  the  best  keeping  them   Thumb Up

 Regards

I  guess  ill  remove  them  cos  its  chasing  around  the  labs  and  female  kenyi  incessantly..ill  keep  more  lab  females  instead..

Going  OT  so  please  bear  with  me..Loved  your  DIY  filter  btw..few  questions  regarding  that:
 1.  how  did  you  fix  the  powerhead  intake  to  the  bottle  top?
 2.  how  many  and  how  big  holes  have  you  made  around  the  bottle  for  the  intake  and  how  is  the  flow  in  your  tank  with  this  filter
 3.  you  have  not  added  any  mechanical  filtration..does  that  affect  the  performance  or  increase  the  frequency  of  filter  (media)cleaning?
 4.  what  rating  powerhead  are  you  using?
 5.  How  would  you  rate  the  performance  of  the  filter?  I  was  thinking  of  adding  something  similar  for  extra  biological  filteration..

They  can  be  fed  after  3  -  4  days  after  birth.  Till  then  the  yolk  sac  would  provide  food.
You  can  powder  any  cichlid  food  and  feed  them  twice  a  day  in  small  quantities  ,  or  you  can  buy  any  branded  Cichlid  Fry  food  (  Eg  ,  Hikari  First  Bites  or  JBL  products  too...etc  )
SInce  they  are  in  a  commuity  tank  ,  put  them  to  a  separate  tank  if  you  have  one.  Siphon  them  out  using  a  pipe  to  a  bucket  and  then  introduce  the  parents  too.
Keep  a  small  sponge  filter  running  in  a  low  to  medium  speed.  You  can  leave  the  parents  along  with  them  too.

Thanks  Vinod,  one  small  query  though  that  now  they  are  free  swimming  but  still  they  carry  the  yolk  sac?  i  thought  it  was  only  till  they  were  at  "wriggler"  stage,  then  they  become  free  swimmers?

wont  siphoning  them  hurt/kill  them?  right  now  the  other  two  pair  are  leaving  the  jewels  territory  alone  i  mean  they  are  not  even  attempting  to  intrude..the  aggressive  male  kenyi  is  occupying  the  front  and  center  of  the  tank  and  i  happy  chasing  the  female  kenyi  and  the  lab  pair  into  the  rocks  should  they  dare  to  enter  his  territory  otherwise  he  doesnt  bother  them..

what  im  thinking  is  that  maybe  i  can  leave  them  in  this  tank  for  now  and  move  them  after  a  couple  of  weeks  when  they  are  bigger..in  case  i  can  do  this  then  how  do  i  feed  them..by  this  i  mean  they  are  at  the  bottom  of  the  24  inch  height  tank..how  will  i  release  the  crushed  flake/pellets  near  them  so  that  they  might  eat  it..or  will  they  start  coming  to  the  top  to  feed  straight  away..right  now  im  feeding  the  fish  tetra  bits  and  awaiting  delivery  of  Hikari  Cichlid  Staple,  Hikari  Cichlid  Gold  and  Bio  gold  Plus..  i  also  have  fish  flake  food  which  i  tried  crushing  to  a  powder  and  introducing  near  the  fry  but  it  all  floated  up!!   Sad   so  now  trying  to  figure  out  a  way  around  that..
