 Hi  Expert

 I  have  noticed  on  my  plants  leaves  has  black  hair  algae  and  some  green  spots  on  glass  and  plants.

 I  know  the  green  spot  means  there  is  some  potassium  deficiency  so  I  have  increased  the  (po4)  dose.

 Details  of  tank  and  doses:

 Tank  size  :  3ft  x  1ft  x  2ft  (W  x  D  x  H)  165  Litres
 Lights  :  2ppl  36w  wipro  and  1  t5  osram  (morning  9:00  am  to  3:00  pm  and  evening  7:00  pm  to  11:00  pm)
 Substrate  :  Little  bit  garden  red  soil  ,  OCEAN  FREE  Absolute  Planting  Soil  for  Planted  Aquariums  (P-13)-  1.5kg  &  fine  layer  of  laterite  river  sand
 Co2  :  pressurize  1BPS
 Dosing  as  per  EI  method
 KNO3  Monday  night  17ml
 KH2PO4  Tuesday  night  17ml
 K2SO4  Wednesday  night  17ml
 MgSO4  Thursday  night  17ml
 Saturday  30%  water  change

 Images  are  attached  for  better  overview.

 Regards

 Sunny

 Your  CO2  should  be  aatleast  2-3  bps  for  your  size  tank.  Stop  the  split  lighting  period  or  keep  a  gap  of  1hr  only.

 You  have  not  mentioned  what  filter  and  how  much  flow  you  have.  Aim  for  around  10X  tank  volume.

 Your  dosing  is  totally  wrong  plus  you  arent  dosing  any  micros.

 Make  the  following  sol  :  In  1litre  warm  water  dissolve  10tsp  KNO3,  2.5  tsp  K2SO4,  4tsp  Kh2PO4  and  5tps  MgSO4.  Dose  25ml  of  this  3x  a  week  and  on  alternate  days  dose  micros  3x  a  week.  Micros  :  2.5  tsp  CSMB  in  600ml  water,  15ml  dose

 GSA  is  due  to  deficiency  in  Phosphates  not  potassium.  That  is  why  the  dose  is  4tsp  in  your  case  otherwise  2.5  tsp  is  the  normal  dose.

 tsp  is  a  lightly  heaped  teaspoon  by  the  way

 @  Sunny,

 As  mentioned  by  Mortis,  your  dosing  is  completely  wrong.  Could  you  please  let  us  know  from  where  did  you  derive  this  method?  Were  you  referring  to  any  website  and  preparing  the  fert  solution?

 I  hope  the  algae  issue  would  be  rectified  once  you  correct  your  dosing  schedule.   Thumb Up

 Hi  Experts..

 I  am  making  solutions  in  500ml  dosing  bottles.

 40  gram  KNO3  dissolved  in  500  ml  distilled  water  (9  tsp)
 3  gram  KH2PO4  dissolved  in  500  ml  distilled  water  (1/2  tsp)
 20  gram  K2SO4  dissolved  in  500  ml  distilled  water  (6  tsp)
 33  gram  MgSo4  dissolved  in  500  ml  distilled  water  (6  tsp)

 1st  dosed  was  55ml  and  after  30%  WC  doses  are  17ml

 If  I  am  wrong  please  correct  me  for  dosing  and  give  me  proper  dissolving  process  for   500ml  water.

 @  Mortis
 Do  I  need  to  make  one  solution  with  all  of  the  above  mentioned  dry  frets  in  1ltr  or  they  need  to  be  mixed  individually  in  1ltr  water.
 Micros  start  in  next  month.
 Filter  eheim  2215

 Regards

 Yes  all  together  in  1  litre.  Are  you  using  the  spray  bar  with  your  2215  ?  No  dead  spots  of  flow  ?  Have  you  turned  up  your  CO2  and  what  diffusion  method  are  you  using  ?

 Dissolve  all  of  them  in  1000  ml  of  water.
 If  you  water  is  hard  do  not  use  mgso4.
 50  ml  of  above  when  dosed  3  times  a  week  will  maintain  the  nutrient  levels.
 You  will  have  about  20  ppm  of  nitrates,  20  ppm  of  potassium.  1.5  ppm  of  Phosphates.
 Increase  your  co2  to  2  bps,  get  a  drop  checker  is  possible,  bps  is  not  a  very  accurate  measure  of  co2.
 Do  a  50%  water  change  every  week.

 @  Mortis

 Ok  today  evening  I  make  that  solution  in  1ltr.  Yes  I'm  using  spray  bar  with  filter  but  I  have  removed  that  end  cap  for  better  filtration.  yes  I  turned  my  co2  2bps.  for  diffusion  method  I'm  using  mini  ceramic  co2  diffuser.

 @  sandeep  sir
 get  a  drop  checker  is  possible...  ok  I  can  try  if  possible.

 Regards

 Hello  Experts!!!!

 As  per  your  guidelines  I  prepared  the  solution  with  all  the  macros  in  01  litre  warm  water  on  Saturday  night.  On  mixing  all  the  contents  the  solution  had  turned  MILKY  in  color  (Is  it  normal?)  and  kept  it  in  dark  area  for  overnight  dissolving.After  24  hrs  on  Sunday  night  when  I  checked  the  solution  the  the  top  half  was  transparent  and  the  bottom  half  looked  MILKY  (Is  it  normal?)

 Note:  when  I  had  prepared  individual  solution  of  the  macros  they  had  no  color  and  were  transparent  like  normal  water.

 Regards

 How  are  you  converting  grams  to  teaspoons?  It  seems  to  be  all  wrong.
 One  teaspoonn  of  these  salts  converts  to  5.6gms.
 going  by  that,
 40grams  KNO3  =  7tsp  (approx)
 3gms  KH2PO4  =  1/2tsp
 20gms  K2SO4  =  3.5tsp
 33gms  MgSO4  =  6tsp

 But  according  to  the  'petalphile'  calculator,  that  dosing  is  also  wrong.

 To  achieve  EI  dosing  levels,  your  target  levels  should  be:

 N  =  7.5ppm
 PO4  =  1.3ppm
 K  =  7.5ppm

 and  to  achieve  these  levels,  your  1  litre  solution  must  contain:

 KNO3  =  118gms  or  21tsp
 KH2PO4  =  18gms  or  3  tsp
 K2SO4  =  162gms  or  28tsp

 The  dosage  being  the  same  17ml  you're  dosing  right  now.  (but  why  17ml?  why  not  a  rounded  number  like  15  or  20  ml?  just  asking)

 You  can  either  keep  a  single  solution  or  have  separate  solutions.  That  is  your  choice.  Having  separate  solutions  gives  you  the  flexibility  to  customize  each  one  &  adjust  doses  according  to  your  tank.  But  a  single  solution  is  an  easy  way  out  without  having  the  headache  of  dosing  from  three  bottles  and  remembering  the  doses  etc.  So  its  your  choice  to  make.

 You  can  reduce  the  amount  of  K2SO4  because  of  2  reasons  -  that  much  K2SO4  will  not  dissolve  in  1l  water  &  since  the  other  salts  are  also  potassium  salts,  you  will  get  some  contribution  from  them  also.

 However,  there  are  other  things  to  remember  when  you  follow  EI.  EI  emphasizes  greatly  on  'non-limiting'  levels  of  nutrents  which  also  includes  CO2.  Tom  Barr  time  &  again  emphasizes  on  good  CO2  levels.  BPS  is  not  such  a  good  indicator  of  CO2  concentration.  But  I  can  tell  you  that  1BPS  will  not  cut  it.  You  need  to  have  atleast  3BPS  to  get  CO2  levels  up  to  EI  standards.

 Also  remember  that  PO4  (phosphate)  dosing  increases   CO2  demand.

 rectify  your  dosing  &  CO2,  and  your  root  problem  is  taken  care  of.  As  for  eradicating  the  present  algae,  do  a  large  water  change  first.  Then  do  WC  every  2  days  for  a  couple  of  weeks.  You  can  dose  macros  everytime  you  change  water.

 Also  get  a  good  micro  nutrient  mix.  Because  when  you  use  EI  method,  plant  demand  for  nutrient  goes  up.  The  micros  present  in  the  water  may  not  be  sufficient.

 *EDIT*
 Dosing  routine  should  be:
 first  one,  just  after  water  change.
 then  alternate  days.
 if  you're  using  separate  solutions,  dose  all  three  at  the  same  time.
