 beta,

Vinny  Kutty  was  very  concerned  that  E.  Canarensis  might  only  be  found  in  the  Kumaradhara  river  (i  was  at  his  talk  too  with  retro_gk).  did  you  get  your  canarensis  from  the  same  place  too?

I  requested  pics  of  their  natural  habitat  from  Vinny  to  write  an  article  on  them,  but  he  could  only  send  them  to  me  in  a  few  months,  as  they  need  to  be  published  for  a  publication  first.

Will  email  him  in  a  couple  of  weeks  again  Very Happy

 Folks

The  best  route  to  go  to  Kumaradhara  is  on  NH  48  Bangalore-  Mangalore  Road,  take  a  left  turn  at  Gundya,  a  couple  of  hours  drive  from  Sakleshpur,  proceed  22  Kms  in  this  winding  road  and  reach  Subramanya,  Subramanya  is  on  the  banks  of  Kumaradhara.

Shall  we  plan  for  it  some  time  soon??????????

Can  I  come  along???    Let's  see,  I'll  go  up  to  LA,  hang  a  left,  quick  stop  in  Singapore,  say  Hi  to  Art,  Hit  Mumbai,  say  I  to  relatives,  and  meet  you  in  Mangalore,  easy  eh???    How  about  Thursday??

Seriously  though,  if  you  guys  go,  please  take  some  pics  of  the  habitat  where  you  find  Canarensis,  I  would  be  really  grateful...

 Thanks,

 Tim

The  easiest  way  and  most  scenic  way  to  go  is  by  train  to  Subramanya  station.  The  green  route.  Tasty  hot  idlis  and  vadas  await  you  as  soon  as  you  alight  at  the  station.

 Yep,  I  agree  with  Trevor.
One  of  the  ever  best  journey  that'll  make  you  feel  you're  -  one  with  the  nature.
Best  enjoyed  when  travelled  by  train...actually  when  the  train  is  going  through  Western  Ghats,  you  can  get  down  and  walk  along  besides  the  train...it'll  be  that  dead  slow.

 Friends,

The  train  journey  is  excellent,  however  guage  conversion  is  currently  on  from  Metre  Guage  to  Broad  Guage  between  Hassan  and  Mangalore.  Infact  it  was  started  when  Jaffer  Sharief  was  the  Railway  Minister,  seems  like  if  they  had  kept  one  concrete  sleeper  a  day,  it  would  be  thru  by  now,    the  target  date  is  revised  to  Dec  2004.  Hence  undertaking  this  journey  might  involve  a  wait.  How  long?  food  for  thought!

 Regards
 Sriram

I'd  hold  off  on  a  trip  till  february.  This  coincides  with  the  end  of  the  spawning  season  for  canarensis  (nov-jan)  and  you  will  have  juveniles  to  collect...
