 Dear  Friends,
After  months  of  research  and  mainly  saving  up  ......  i  have  decided  to  take  the  plunge  into  the  marine  world  !!!
Will  start  the  setting  up  in  a  few  weeks  time.  :)

I  have  few  RARELY  ASKED  QUESTIONS  regarding  setting  up  the  Marine  aquarium,  may  i  please  request  the  experts  to  advice  me  :

 -  During  the  initial  setup,  how  did  you  prepare  the  salt-water  mix.  Did  u  have  a  huge  container  and  mixed  the  salt  to  the  water  or  did  u  do  it  in  batches.

 -  When  i  visited  a  LFS  few  months  back,  he  had  a  particular  brand  of  salt.  But,  when  i  went  there  recently,  he  had  a  different  brand.
Is  it  ok  to  use  different  brands  of  salt  ?

 -  How  did  u  manage  the  inflow  and  return  flow  rate  from  the  tank  to  the  sump.  The  reason  im  asking  is  becos  if  the  inflow  rate  is  higher  than     the  return  rate,  the  sump  will  fill  up  and  overflow.  If  the  return  rate  is  higher  is  higher  than  the  inflow,  it  might  dry  out.  Any  tips  to  avoid  this.   Shocked

See  the  overflow  is  based  on  gravity  and  the  amount  of  water  entering  through  your  return  pump  is  the  amount  of  water  that  is  going  to  your  sump....so  u  r  sump  won't  overflow.

Not  really  rarely  asked  but  my  opinions  below

 -  initial  filling  of  the  tank.  Add  fresh  water  to  tank.  Add  salt  and  mix  in  tank  itself.  Of  coirse  rinse  tank  thoroughly  before  doing  this.

 -  stick  to  one  brand  of  salt.  Depending  on  reef/non-reef  this  becomes  more  important.  Switching  mixes  may  make  your  parameters  fluctuate  if  you  do  it  often.

 -  if  you  are  still  in  planning  stage,  I  strongly  recommend  the  beananimal  silent  overflow  for  your  sump  plumbing.  You  do  need  to  size  your  piping  to  the  flow  characteristics  of  the  return  pump  you  have  chosen.  A  small  suggestion  here.  Please  do  not  akimp  on  the  return  pump.  It  will  run  24/7  and  you  are  better  off  with  a  good  reliable  brand  that  will  give  years  of  troublefree  service.

 Regards,
 Venkat

 Thanks  a  ton  Venkat   Smile
Sorry,  few  more  doubts  pls  :

 -  So,  when  do  i  add  the  substrate  and  rocks?  after  adding  the  salt-water  mix  ?  or  before  that.

 -  Yes,  will  stick  to  one  brand.     Smile

 -  Wow,  i  learnt  some  thing  new  today.  Sure,  will  research  on  the  Beananimal  overflow  system.
Yes,  i  have  allocated  a  good  portion  of  my  budget  for  the  sump  and  overflow  system.   Thumb Up

   Cheer

Adding  substrate  and  rocks  has  to  be  after  mixing.

You  will  have  to  allocate  a  good  portion  of  your  money  and  time  to  the  marine  hobby  Very Happy

Yeah.  It  usually  takes  at  least  a  couple  of  years  to  reach  the  new  hatchback  car  level.
Patience...you  will  get  there  soon  Chuckle
