 Hi  Guys,

Here  is  a  report  on  the  mosses  seen  at  Tada.

Mosses  seems  to  just  start  growing  again  after  the  hot  summer.  The  recent  rains  &  subsequent  drop  in  temperature  might  have  triggered  the  growth.  I  have  not  seen  this  much  mosses  during  my  previous  trips  to  this  place.  The  moss  was  seen  growing  just  above  the  water  line,  on  rocks  where  water  was  splashing  &  in  few  places,  submerged.  The  submerged  mosses  were  more  or  else  the  same  as  the  ones  above  waterline.  However,  the  fronds  were  better  developed  &  like  the  Christmas  moss  fronds,  were  triangular.

In  this  picture  above,  the  new  growth,  which  is  light  green  in  colour,  is  growing  out  of  the  general  moss  "layer",  which  is  older  &  very  dark  green  in  colour.

The  moss  fronds  seems  to  grow  up.

 Typical  area  where  moss  grows.

The  waterfalls  doesnot  wash  away  the  mosses.

This  one  is  liverwort.  We  saw  very  little  liverworts  this  time.

 Hi,

Beta  has  collected  some  of  these  mosses  &  distributed  to  people  to  try  &  keep  in  their  tank.  I  very  much  doubt  if  it  will  grow  well  in  Madras  since  the  water  temperature  should  be  quite  low,  atleast  below  24  degrees  C.  It  might  grow  better  in  Bangalore  or  such  cooler  places.
