Has  anyone  heard  of  this  company  called  Fluval  /  Flowell  that  manufactures  external  filters?  I'm  not  sure  how  it  is  spelt.  My  LFS  is  trying  to  sell  me  one  of  these,  but  I  don't  know  if  I  should  go  with  it....

Its  flowell  as  sandeep  said...but  i  think  its  purely  on  your  luck  as  to  how  these  filters  would  work  for  you..they  may  last  for  years  or  could  even  break  down  in  a  couple  of  months  time...the  only  advantage  being  that  spares  are  readily  available..

 Both  are  different  brands,
Flowell  being  indian,  many  years  old  now,  yes  with  spares  (rotors)  available.

The  other  is  Fluval,  a  brand  of  the  german  aquarium  giant  HAGEN.  I  am  doubtful  whether  there  is  an  external  filter  by  Fluval,  although  you  will  get  many  brands  by  other  reputed  manufacturers.

Whatever  you  buy,  see  to  it  that  you  know  its  'make',  whether  its  from  china/taiwan/europe  etc.  accordingly  you  can  get  a  good  price.

 Regards,
 amod.

 Hi  akg,
Do  not  compromise  with  your  filter,  It  is  a  long  term  investment  so  i  would  suggest  you  that  you  go  for  the  best  there  is  available  ,  This  filter  is  probably  good  but  go  in  for  a  tried  and  tested  brand  and  model  like  a  eheim.

the  price  difference  may  be  daunting  at  first  but  saves  you  the  thought  of  failure.

Read  up  some  reviews  on  known  brands  and  make  your  choise.

 Rahul.

 Yeh!!!
One  might  not  want  to  just  pull  out  external  filter  just  because  it  broke.  And  to  get  it  maintained.  As  such  i  clean  my  canister  once  every  month.  If  this  happens  then  may  be  once  every  week  or  2  weeks    one  might  have  to  do  the  setup  of  a  external  filter  Edit  work  all  over  again.

I  would  go  for  the  good  quality  ones  which  lasts  longer  than  these  locally  made  ones.

 hi

Well  i  know  of  Fluval  a  german  brand  these  are  good  filters  know  of  a  few  people  using  them.  They  definately  make  canister  filters,  but  ofcourse  the  cost  diffrence  wont  be  too  much  between  the  ehiem  and  fluval  canister  filters  i  would  definately  say  buy  the  ehiem  filter  they  are  the  best  and  ofcourse  a  one  time  investment,  they  last  for  years!!!!  I  am  using  the  2215  and  have  been  very  happy  with  its  efficency.  Its  worth  the  money!!

       Regards
             Harshal.

I  just  went  to  someone's  house  who  also  has  the  same  filter  from  Flowel  and  it  seems  to  be  pretty  good  actually.  He's  had  it  for  6  months  +  and  the  water  is  crystal  clear.  He  also  mentioned  that  he  does  large  water  changes  every  week.  I  do  the  same,  as  I  have  6  large  red  belly  piranhas.  So  I  might  just  take  the  filter.  I'm  also  thinking  of  setting  up  a  separate  tank  for  discus.  What  kind  of  filtration  is  the  best  for  discus?  Any  help  would  be  much  appreciated.  Thanks.

 H  Akg,
Do  let  us  know  how  this  filter  works,  what  does  it  come  with  in  the  box,  like  double  taps,  hose,  filter  medial    ect

For  a  discus  tank  yo  will  only  need  a  sponge  filter  since  you  are  going  to  change  atleast  50%  water  every  day.

AFAIK  Eheim  is  the  best  in  Canisters.  You  would  be  glad  in  the  future  investing  on  Eheim...  No  other  Canister  is  as  reliable  as  Eheim

You  could  use  a  sponge  filter  or  a  Hang  on  filter  because  Discuss  hate  water  current

The  tank  has  to  be  bare  bottom  and  sponge  filter  would  do...  anyhow,  you  have  to  be  regular  with  your  WCs  everyday.....

Fluval  is  one  of  the  prominent  product  of  the  brand  'HAGEN'.

While  these  Flowel  filters  are  Indian  make.  My  old  Flowel  lasted  for  10  years.  Did  decent  job  cleaning  my  2ft  tank  over  the  years.

Now  Flowel  has  altered  this  old  model  &  has  introduced  'Flowel  Aqua-Pura'.  Its  canister  volume  has  been  shrinked  a  bit  now.  Based  on  my  previous  Flowel  experience,  I  purchased  this  new  model.  Its  Plug-pin  broke  within  2  months  &  also  the  filter  performance  was  not  satisfactory  compared  to  old  model.
