 Hi  guys,
The  latest  this  week  is  that,  I  had  introduced  the  second  batch  of  cleaner  crews  on  saturday..  8  nos  of  Ottos!!
But  I  lost  3  of  them  the  very  first  day  of  introducing  them,  but  the  remaining  5  are  doing  great..
I  have  removed  most  of  the  older  leaves  which  were  too  long,  including  the  Bolbitis  at  the  back..
Did  the  regular  30%  water  change..

As  of  now  still  no  signs  of  algae,  But  one  thing  is  still  not  getting  sorting  out..  Oily  film  on  water  surface!!!
I  have  this  problem  from  the  very  beginning,  thought  it  will  go  away  after  a  few  weeks..  but  its  getting  worse  day  by  day.
Right  now  I  remove  it  manually  every  other  day..  So,  does  any  one  have  a  solution  for  this..?

 Hi  Srinidhi,
I  am  not  a  expert,  but  going  thru  many  articles  for  quite  some  time  and  have  a  planted  tank  for  past  10  months.  The  oily  film  can  be  solved  by  adding  air  tube  to  your  internal  filter(i  too  had  this  and  it  solved  the  problem),  or  you  have  to  find  a  way  to  have  good  surface  agitation.   this  will  cause  some  co2  loss  but  can  be  worked  around  by  increasing  bpm.

this  link  talks  abt  the  algae  issue  in  a  detailed  manner,  also  referred  by  Tom  Barr  himself  in  one  of  his  post.

 Hi  Nidhi,

In  Kolkata  people  start  using  some  small  skimmer,  which  keep  clean  the  water  surface.  Though  I  didn't
used  is  still  but  I  have  seen  it's  working  nice.

 You  can  try  .........

It's  coming  out  nicely  sir.  I  too  got  needle  ferns  recently  and  am  loving  the  growth  of  these  plants.  Smile  I  too  had  the  film  layer  on  top  but  disappeared  after  2  months.  Never  knew  what  that  was.  I  am  happy  it  is  gone,  though.  I  suspected  the  dust.

 Cheers,

 Karthik

 Two  months..?
I  faced  this  problem  earlier,  but  used  to  clear  out  by  2  weeks  max.  This  is  the  first  time  I  feel  like  I  am  going  no  where  with  this.
First  will  try  what  Devarajan  suggested,  meanwhile  will  try  to  source  the  skimmer  which  Abhi  was  talking  about..
Thanks  for  the  compliment  on  the  scape..

I  have  heard  that  a  spray  of  hydrogen  peroxide  will  remove  the  film,  and  also  help  with  algae  control.  I  have  never  used  this  method,  you  could  try

I  think  the  scum  is  going  down  after  I  added  the  air  pipe  in  to  the  power  head  yesterday  ,  the  air  bubbles  from  the  power  head  is  breaking  down  the  scum  gradually..

 Nidhi,

Try  attaching  a  spray  bar  to  the  filter  outlet  to  get  rid  of  the  film.

Also  do  not  change  anything  in  your  present  setup  the  tank  is  looking  better  by  the  week.
