 I  have  a  severe  snail  attack  in  my  aquarium  (  4  feet).  I  am  setting  up  a  separate  nano  tank  so  i  am  dipping  the  plants  in  potassium  permanganate  bath  for  about  5-7  minutes.

 Is  this  enough  or  do  i  take  any  other  precautions?

 Which  Plants  are  you  dipping?  and  what  concentration  are  you  using?  It  would  be  easier  to  hold  the  plants  under  a  jet  of  water  so  that  the  snails  get  washed  away.  I  have  seen  most  plants  melt  if  i  give  them  a  bath  any  longer  than  30  seconds.  I  use  PP  only  for  hardscape.  and  not  plants.

 Add  only  a  little  bit  of  PP  to  make  the  water  PINK  not  Purple.  Dip  for  10  mins  and  you  should  be  fine.  Plants  shouldnt  get  damaged  significantly  if  you  get  the  concentration  right

 @Chetan3  betel  nuts?

 Will  that  affect  shrimps?  i  understand  that  anything  that  affects  snails  generally  affects  all  inverts.

 get  Assassin  snails.  4-5  of  them.  all  will  be  well  in  2  months  and  no  plants  will  be  impacted  too.

 I  have  actually  decided  to  stay  away  from  assassin  snail,  they  lay  eggs  everywhere  and  the  eggs  get  fungus  the  whole  thing  looks  ugly.
 further  they  are  cannibalistic  and  will  kill  each  other.  found  out  the  hard  way  when  they  had  finished  off  all  other  snails  in  the  tank  and  went  after  each  other.

 Hi

 Best  way  to  get  rid  of  snails  is  YoYo  loach  and  clown  loach

 As  far  as  transferring  from  one  tank  to  another-  well  clean  it  under  running  water  and  replant.  PP  no  idea.

 Assasins  Cannbalistic  -  yes-  wether  they  destroy  other  snails  or  not,  they  definitely  turn  on  each  other.

 I  had  same  problem  of  Trumpet  snails.  Introduced  YoYo  loach  and  clown  loach.  I  don't  see  any  more  snails.  Bad  part  they  also  attack  Assasin  snails  and  shrimps.

 Feed  the  loaches  only  once  in  2-3  days  fish  food.  Remove  as  much  as  possible  big  snails.  Small  will  betaken  care  of  by  loaches.

 KP

 Thanks..  I  think  loaches  will  be  a  good  idea  after  I  remove  the  shrimp.  Same  with  assassins  as  they  attack  shrimp  too

 If  i  can  suggest  something  from  my  experience,  try  lettuce  leaves   ,  dip  them  in  the  tank  at  evening,  pull  out  and  throw  them  with  lots  of  snails  attached  to  it  in  the  morning  before  the  you  switch  on  the  lights.  Repeat  next  day.  Simple,  safe,  effective  and  cheap  way  to  get  rid  off  snails.
 My  2  cents

 Put  two  tiger  loachs  in  your  tank  and  they  will  clean  up  the  snails  and  eggs.........  Thumb Up  PP  may  damage  your  plants.....
