 Dear  Francis,
I  had  read  somewhere  that  Mr.  Amano  used  soda  at  the  beginning  to  boost  plant  growth.
 Then  he  started  pressurized  co2.
 Thanks,
 Arin

The  sudden  increase  in  C02  concentration  due  to  addition  of  soda  might  stress  the  fish.  There  is  really  no  problem  using  soda,  but  its  a  cumbersome  process.  Glutaraldehyde  is  more  useful  for  slow  growing  plants.  I  never  found  any  difference  for  stem  plants  an  carpet  plants.
