Has anyone tried using cowdung as root tabs?
My substrate is mainly river sand and is quite old, so today I made some root tabs using cowdung! I rolled the cowdung into small cylinders about 5mm dia and 1cm long and then baked them for 15 minutes in the oven at 220 C. I made 3 tabs as an experiment, and inserted them into the sand near the plant roots. Lets see if anything happens. |

You're a brave one. I hope you don't get kicked out of your own home. If you survive your families wrath after this experiment do let us know the results. |

I already got my share of scolding and cursing! But there was no smell as the dung was pretty old, sitting in sacks for about a year. |

I did it too but then I switched to chem fertilizers used for farming. You should try them too. They are cheap. |

Can you please give some details about farming fertilizers. How did you used them? I already dose liquid fertilizers in my tank. I am thinking of enriching the soil so that I can plant root feeders like amazon plants.
BTW, how was the result of using dry cowdung in the substrate? |

Morriate of potash KCl 40 rs/kg
Diammonium phosphate 40 rs/kg
Calcium nitrate. 90rs/kg
But since you already use liquid fertz, you won't need them.
Dried cowdung will float up when you burry it in substrate.
It will leach ammonia and cause algae bloom.
Better make root tabs with clay. |

I pushed the dung tablet deep into my sand bed, so far nothing has happened. |
