As  I  have  suggested  earlier,  mix  red  soil  with  bananas.  then  let  is  dry  off  and  harden.  crush  the  soil  into  fine  layer  and  cover  it  with  river  gravel.  It  will  give  good  results.  You  may  have  a  little  algae,  but  growth  will  be  good.  Ma  be  you  can  have  grass  as  carpet.  all  other  plants  will  grow  successfully.  In  the  beginning  you  will  have  to  do  regular  water  changes.

Changing  water  in  such  tanks  is  a  challenge  Smile  ,  but  use  a  water  rose/  shower  to  pour  water.

River  sand  is  the  same  sand  used  for  building  houses..  while  plasting  is  going  on  they  will  sieve  and  use  the  finer  sand.  leaving  behind  the  bigger  grains.  you  can  get  those  and  use  it.

Please  avoid  it...just  do  as  I  have  mentioned..
Walsted  method  is  a  simple  method,  adding  banana  or  any  thing  else  is  not  good  for  low  tech  planted  tanks..

Will  red  soil  be  enough  to  supply  nutrients  if  I  add  some  good  growing  plants  like  Water  Wisteria,  pennywort  which  are  also  low  demanding  plants?

Pls  can  you  suggest  me  some  varieties  that  would  be  good  to  grow  in  this  setup  and  I  can  pickup  few  varieties  from  it.  Pls  help  me  on  some  fast  growing  plants  too..  Thank  you..

the  river  gravel  which  I  have  is  brown  and  looks  like  red  soil/laterite.

How  can  I  know  what  your  LFS  have?

Plants  like  cabomba,  water  wisteria,  valsneria,  luvigia,  bacopa,  simple  grass,  are  very  good  for  beginners.

Simply  adding  red  soil  is  not  sufficient.  Red  soil  mixed  with  gravel  6mm  to  8mm  size  is  good.  Atleast  2.5"  thick  layer  is  good.

Use  Tweezers  for  planting  stem  plants  with  1"  gap  between  each  other.  tall  plants  at  the  rear  such  as  cabomba,  valisneria  (cork  screw),  ludwigia  can  be  at  the  side  about  a  group  of  6  .  Bunch  of  9  to  15shoots  of  Bacopa   can  be  in  the  center.

You  can  make  a  nice  carpet  of  water  wisteria  on  foreground  and  keep  trimming  them  to  remain  2"  tall.  Use  t5  lights.

give  me  the  dimensions  of  your  tank,  I  will  show  you  a  canopy  style.
