Hi, everyone.
Low tech tank specs:
Tank capacity: 22 litres
Light: Surya LED 9W
Lighting period: 9 hours a day
Carbon: liquid, Seachem Excel Flourish, 7 drops a day 15 mins before light starts
Substrate: potting soil (bead-like) base, with brown soil on top (I don't know exactly, purchased by my father)
Plants: water wisteria, tiger lotus
Fish: 10 rummy-nosed tetra, 1 betta
Almost a year back, I had great plant growth in my tank. But a few months back, my father decides to go with tabs instead of liquid carbon based on a shopkeeper's suggestion and in a fortnight all the leaves fell off from the plants. Then we switched back to the liquid carbon, but the growth has not improved, though the leaves don't fall off now.
In the time when the tabs had their negative effect, I don't know if I changed the lighting from CFL to LED—or if it was done in a different period altogether. So, I don't know the cause for the current growth problem. The lotus has decent growth but the wisteria growth is stunted.
I would greatly appreciate any help from you guys.

Add more ferts and Excel. If I remember correctly Excel dosage is about 1ml per 50 lts so for your tank you should be dosing approx 0.5ml which is quite a bit more than your current 7 drops. Dont be scared of Excel, you can gradually increase the dosage above recommended over the course of a couple of weeks without issues but start off with dosing 0.5ml daily and 2.5ml on water change day.
Also, Flourish doesnt contain Macro ferts, these might have been present in your substrate and are exhausted now. Also add N, P, K to your dosing regimen

Hi, Mortis and others. It's been a while and the tank setup is same except that the soil is Amazonia by ADA. The growth is still stunted and there's a lot of green algae problem. I use 12 drops daily of Flourish.
Also, since the Flourish Excel bottle is so big and the cap has an irritating safety lock system, I pour it into another smaller bottle with a dropper at its mouth. I hope that doesn't reduce its power in the bottle transfer process.

Dose 1/2 to 1ml of Excel. Use a syringe. Is your LED light bulb type, tube type or a proper aquarium fitting ? Also what filtration are you using ? Water flow plays an important part in the planted aquarium
