How often does the tank needs trimming, just curious since there's no CO2...
Trim them once a month just below the water line, they would have grown bit sideways at water surface, so trim that. Once a year trim plants below 1/2 tank height then provide DIY CO2 till they grow back to the top.

The wall of rotalas looks magnificiant, reminds me of conifers on a mountain range.
I have big respect for tanks running long term- its a commitment, kudos to you mate.
I used to have a very stable lowtech for 6years I believe, I regret ripping it down, I am trying to recreate a similar tank since then.
P.S. One little input - Upgrade the lights to some LED setup(we have lots of options these days ranging from simple LED battens to floodlights from the local electrical store to high end specialized aquarium LED lights), it will be far more efficient than a T5HO with intense penetration(for the high tank). Rotalas on lower ends do look a bit light deficient.
