Here is an easy to make Aquarium Cave with the usual clay pot you find in local pottery shops. They are also available with street vendors during festival seasons.
a) Clay Pot of desired size (Normally cost Rs. 10 for the size shown in the picture below)
b) Aquarium Silicone Glue (or alternate use M.Seal)
c) Few Gravel (Same color, as used in the Tank)
Step 1: Drill 5 holes (on four side and on top, that is of 1 to 2 inches diameter)
Many feel, drilling big circular holes in clay pot is difficult. All u need is to rub them on rough concrete floor, till u get a perfect circular hole of desired size.
Step 2: Once all the holes are made, smoothen the inner linings of the holes with sandpaper (Make sure, you dont destroy the enamel or glossy finish of the clay pot)
Step 3: Fix lining of gravel along the circles with M.Seal or Silicone glue
(You can also decorate the pot, by pasting colored stones or paste gravel along some designs you draw over the pot. The creativity is all yours. .!!! )
Step 4: Once the silicone sealant or glue dries, you can cure the pot, by placing it in a water tub for few hours or a day.
Step 5: Place the pot cave, in your tank in your desired places.
Clay pots are available in black and brick red colors. Always, a colored beading of white or light colored gravel, glued along each holes will give a good appeal to the cave.
I'm posting a picture of a clay pot cave , i made with the above instructions. (The picture is not of a good quality, as i captured it with my mobile camera. ) When i find time later, I will try some more similar ones, with better designs, with provisions to stuff plants.
Extra Add - On Works
If you plan to set, tall plants inside the pot , in addition to the cave holes, make extra small holes, through which u could fix the roots of the plants to the basement gravel bed.
If you plan to fix plants over the pot, drill a small hole over the pot, and on the inner side of the pot, u can glue a small plastic cup (where it hold the plant substrate, to fix the roots). And on four sides, u can have cave entrance holes.
Placing an Airstone inside the pot through hidden tubes will give more attraction to your cave. Or you can decorate with air curtain rubber tubes.
