I  am  planning  to  start  a  new  tank  soon  where  I  would  prefer  the  only  inhabitants  to  be  shrimp.

What  Indian  shrimps  can  be  used  safely  in  aquariums?  I  don't  want  them  to  grow  too  big  as  I  would  like  to  transfer  them  to  other  tanks  as  well  when  they  breed.  The  max  size  I  would  like  is  about  2"  for  an  adult.

Any  other  shrimps  that  I  can  use  -  Cherry  Shrimps  etc,  but  breeding  is  a  definite  criteria  that  I  am  looking  for  since  this  is  a  shrimp  only  tank.

Experts  please  advise.  Also  whether  anyone  can  send  them  to  me.

 Thanks  in  advance.

Macrobrachium  Lanchesteri  can  be  easily  grown  and  bred.  They  are  a  transparent  green  with  a  few  yellow  spots  and  grow  to  1  inch  and  are  extremley  hardy.

I  caught  a  few  in  Tambraparani  and  in  a  few  weeks,  i  had  almost  15  shrimplets  feasting  on  tetrabits,  decaying  leaves,  crushed  snails.  Call  Kumar  on  09942174428  for  getting  them  delivered.

 HI  Suraj,
Just  called  up  Suresh  and  heard  from  him  that  we  are  gonna  place  an  order  from  Sg  shortly  for  the  following  shrimps.

Please  lemme  know  if  you  are  interested.  We  do  not  know  the  prices  as  yet,  but  will  keep  you  posted  if  interested.  by  this  we  can  share  the  shipment  charges  and  the  cost  will  also  be  cheaper.

 Cherry  shrimps
 Yamato  shrimps
 Crystal  red  shrimps
 bumble  bee  shrimps

IMO  start  with  the  cheaper  varieties  and  then  buy  some  exotic  ones..
For  Breeding  the  indian  varieties  it  is  very  very  easy  and  u  dont  even  have  to  put  in  any  effort..
Regarding  cherries  they  are  fairly  easy  too  just  maintian  the  water  parameters  and  good  feed  and  they  will  breed  like  crazy..
 Bye..

There  is  an  entire  crop  of  shrimp  farmers  down  here  in  Bangalore  who  are  breeding  Indian  shrimp  like  crazy.
You  can  go  in  for  several  different  types  of  Indian  shrimp  if  you  like  from  various  locations;  Tambraparani-  which  PC  mentioned,  Kumta,  even  outlying  Bangalore.

These  shrimps  are  cheap  and  once  a  colony  is  established,  the  shrimp  and  eggs  can  be  used  as  live  food  for  fish.

If  you  want  to  go  for  more  expensive  shrimp  from  a  breeding  pov,  I'd  suggest  crystal  reds,  red  cherry  and  bumblebee  shrimp.  Yamato  shrimplets  require  brackish  water  to  survive.

 Thank  you  guys.

I  would  first  like  to  stick  on  to  the  Indian  varieties.  I  will  get  in  touch  with  Pradeep's  contact  and  keep  you  posted  on  the  developments  as  well.
