Can  someone  please  tell  me  why  I  should  not  use  a  simple  SODA  bottle  for  CO2  for  my  planted  tank.
 Isn't  Soda  Carbonated  water....???
I  dont  have  a  CO2  releaser,  I  have  used  this  in  the  past  with  no  side  effects
 can  someone  share  their  experiences...
 thanks....

Adding  SODA  from  the  bottle  to  the  tank  directly  might  just   shoot  up  the  dissloved  Co2  concentration  in  the  tank.
This  sudden  spike  leads  to  increase  in  the  acidity  of  water  the  fish  might  die  of  suffocation.
Even  for  a  fishless  tank,  the  plants  might  not  be  able  to  utilise  the  entire  dissolved  Co2  from  the  water  and  the  unutilised  one  might  just  go  waste  due  to  evaporation.
So  its  advisable  to  go  for  DIY  Co2  or  for  a  longer  run  ,  go  for  Presurrised  Co2.

I  would  always  like  a  controlled  co2  release  in  any  planted  tank.
However,  answering  to  your  question  I  would  like  to  say  that  it  is  possible  only  if  you  let  the  soda  drip  into  the  planted  tank  drop  by  drop  over  the  photoperiod  which  is  difficult  to  regulate............

 Nanu,
If  you  are  a  starter  go  for  the  DIY  just  to  get  a  feel  of  it,  But  if  you  wanna  keep  it  for  a  long  period  go  for  the  conventional  Co2  setup.

May  be  Hamza  and  others  in  Pune  can  help  you,  As  stated  for  other  components  in  other  thread  if  you  want  to,  you  can  also  get  it  from  Bangalore  folks  talk  to  Surresh,  May  be  even  i  can  help  you.

I  suppose  going  for  a  branded  Co2  might  be  expensive.  We  at  bangalore  use  the  hospital  cylinders  which  are  also  easier  to  refill..

Red  Sea  branded  complete  system  is  available  in  India  (even  by  mail  order)  but  they  are  way  too  expensive  unless  you  are  ready  to  part  with  around  10k  or  so.  the  system  is  fully  loaded  though  with  all  the  frills,  complete  with  diffuser,  co2  monitor  and  automatic  control.  that  is,  you  can  preset  it  to  automatically  shut  off  if  dissolved  co2  reaches  a  certain  level  and  then  restart  once  it  goes  down  (much  like  an  AC  which  goes  on  fan  mode  when  your  room  temperature  reaches  a  certain  preset  level  and  restarts  when  it  starts  getting  warmer).  in  bengali  we  have  this  saying  -  the  more  sugar  you  add,  the  sweeter  it  gets.

DIY  systems  have  this  disadvantage  that  you  cannot  control  it.  initially  the  level  is  low,  then  it  goes  up,  stays  level,  then  comes  down.  this  cycle  goes  on.

 Hi  Sudipto,
Solenoid's  and  mutli  regulator  valve  can  get  away  with  the  problems  mentioned.
Also  note  that  multi  tanks  can  be  fed  with  custom  designs  as  per  requirement

Please  educate  me  Raghu.  I  am  really  keen  to  know  this  and  solve  this  problem  in  my  tank  of  unregulated  and  irregular  CO2  flow.  I  never  knew  one  could  use  these  valves  and  solenoids  in  yeast  based  systems.  Please  help.

 Raghu

 Thats  interesting  !!
Even  I  would  like  to  learn  how  to  go  about  regulating  DIY  Co2.
There  was  a  thread  in  the  past  when  someone  came  up  with  an  innovative  idea  about  regulating  DIY  Co2  output.
The  thread  was  locked  by  the  Moderator  becoz  of  its  potentially  dangerous  consequences.

yes  i  remember  the  thread  was  locked..
As  regulating  DIY  CO2  would  be  difficult  and  the  consequences  would  be  bad  and  yes  very  dangerous..
