I've tried this RED series (From the cheaper Koi Red, to Hi Red, Fast Red, and all series) for many years.
And if i recommend any (among the one, easily available in India), then it is only Excel Red (by A.i.m ). The price might be little higher than other RED series of food. It is a real worthy food with good proportion of protein and other contents.
I dont claim these food makes the fish red in a week. But, it does enhance the natural color of a fish and might work with Gold Fishes, Koi's, few cichlid like Salvini, Albino Tiger & Albino Oscars, and some strains of discus. With my experiences, these food havent given color boost to any african mbuna's, but if you try them for albino rainbow shark or common rainbow sharks or some goldfishes, then you u could see amazing result in few days. Personally i prefer this pellet for its quality and 42% plus protein and faster growth and mostly all fish prefer this in my experience.
My advice is, dont trust in color enhancing food that claims color multiplication in couple of days. And every fishes dont turn red , with red color enhancement food series.

Scorpio,
sorry to disappoint you but, a fish displays it's natural colors only when adult and when provided with the correct environment. Ofcourse, food does enhance the color to a certain extend but, if not supplimented with proper water parameters the fish will not display it's prime.
Instead of feeding artificial 'enhancers' try to feed the fish the food it normally feeds on in it's natural environment and see how wonderfully they react to it! One more thing since you are based in Mumbai - the source water is soft do you buffer the water for african cichlids?

just a word of caution, dont alter the chemistry in one shot or you will stress the fish.......do it gradually if you intend to buffer the water

see anything that sounds remarkable is not always good for the fish........yes, you will get outstanding results temporarily but, it will have it's side effects later on.

In my opinion its best to use natural color enhancers. If the fish get any redder, well and good....and if they dont get redder, atleast they will get fatter! try these foods:
1.Red shrimps(the small dried type)
2.shrimp eggs/crab eggs(they are orange in color, with some kind of natural pigment
3.astaxanthin ....this has worked quite well for me(fish i.e.).I was told astaxanthin is extracted from a kind of algae, though i'm not sure, but if it is,I see no harm in using it.
A word of caution though with options 1 and 2.Since you have african cichlids(i'm assuming they are malawi mbunas)...take care to feed shrimp/eggs in small amounts counter-balanced with plenty of greens.Small quantities of red feed, and patience are required!

Hey scorpiopereira,
They say coffee can change skin colour in humans. I've been drinking coffee since I was 16. I am still as white as the fallen snow here . The only thing that turns me red is the sunshine we will be getting this spring .
