 HI  I  currently  have  a  36x15x18(H),  tank  with  3  med  discus,  and  other  fillers  10  Neon,10  Penguin,6  Dinos,4  Clown  Loaches,6  Rams  and  4  Kribs.
I  know  this  tank  is  getting  too  small  and  I  want  a  bigger  one  I  was  considering  the  size  to  be  about  4  ft   or  so  and  about  21-24  inch  Height.  and  18inch  Wide.
Please  give  some  inputs  if  this  is  ok  for  about  6-8  Adult  Discus.
I  am  new  in  Pune  so  if  any  Pune  people  can  help  it  will  be  great...
 thanks...

Since  you  are  going  21-24  in  height,  why  restrict  the  width  to  18"?
A  4x2x2  should  be  great  for  6-8  adult  discus.

get  in  touch  with  Hamza  (toomanyfish)  he  will  help  you  locate  a  good  LFS  in  Pune  for  your  custom.
 I  would  suggest  a  size  of  48"  X  24"  X  24"   Thumb Up

 I  will  be  going  in  for  a  4x2x2  tank  or  a  5x2x2  tank  ..
I  dont  really  want  to  have  4  support  beams,  and  don't  mind  increasing  the  glass  thickness  to  sacrifice  this...
is  it  ok  to  have  only  the  side  support  beams  and  maybe  one  in  the  center...?
or  can  I  just  have  4  triangles  at  the  corners...?
Please  suggest  a  recomended  glass  thickness  for  this..

 Hi  Nanu
Sorry  got  in  a  bit  late  on  this..well  go  in  for  a  planted  discus  tank  only  only  if  you  have  the  required  experience  of  raising  discus  in  a  planted  tank  and  only  if  you  plan  to  buy  at  least  4-5  inch  fish  which  if  you  buy  quality  fish  can  be  an  expensive  affair.
I  never  buy  any  discus  from  poona  as  most  lfs  here  have  hopeless  discus..at  least  they  look  hopeless  when  you  compare  with  the  some  of  the  fish  i  have  been  getting  from  breeders  in  mumbai..
Let  me  know  when  you  want  the  fish  maybe  we  iah  poon  gang  can  plan  a  trip  or  something  to  mumbai.
 Hamza

 Hey  Hamaz,
I  have  about  6  Discus  now...
 3  about  3  inch.
 1  about  4.5  inch
 2  about  5.5-6  inch.
I  have  had  2  of  them  for  about  4  months  now  in  a  semi  planted  tank...Got  them  from  Mr.  Peter  Diaz's  Collection.
and  rest  4  from  Shrey  (Mumbai)  they  are  new.
in  about  the  past  year  I  have  lost  about  2  small  discus  and  2  2.5-3  inch  Blue  Diamonds  that  was  sad...
I  haven't  yet  fed  them  with  beef  heart  cause  I  can  source  some  as  I  am  new  in  Pune..
I  wanted  a  planted  tank  for  these  and  wanted  to  add  a  pair  of  Blue  Diamonds  to  it...so  6-8  Discus..
But  right  now  my  next  investment  is  a  Filter!!  Enhiem  when  I  can  save  up  cash  for  it...
I  am  still  new  and  I  would  love  you  get  some  tips  form  others...

 hi  nanu
i  see  that  u  are  planning  to  keep  adult  discus  but  see  that  u  have  actually  bought  small  ones  and  u  have  big  ones  too..
but  just  wanted  to  tell  you  that  the  small  ones  tend  to  grow  very  slow  or  will  be  runts  due  to  competition  for  food  and  territorial  traits  from  the  bigger  ones...
and  i  would  suggest  to  keep  adult  discus  only  in  a  planted  tank..

 Hey  Mitul
Yes  I  agree,  I  want  to  remove  my  3  larger  discus  to  a  new  tank  that  I  am  inquiring  about...But  it  will  only  happen  by  the  end  of  next  month,  as  I  stay  in  a  rental  place  and  wil  be  moving  this  month,  so  all  Aquauarium  upgrades  are  on  standby...
(The  new  4-5x2x2  tank  is  going  to  be  only  for  Large  Discus,  Congo  Tetras(need  to  source  them  if  they  are  compatible  with  Discus)  and  lotsa  Vals  and  some  Sword  Amazons)
About  the  runts  and  fights  for  food.  Surprisingly  the  3  Adults  dont  care  much  about  the  others,  but  there  is  a  small  Turquiose  who  is  forever  after  the  other  2  young  ones!!  He  to  be  very  shy  before  I  got  the  2  smaller  ones  but  now  he  isnt  shy  but  a  bully...I  got  the  2  new  small  one  to  get  rid  of  his  shyness  but  not  to  make  hm  a  bully  which  is  what  he  is  turning  out  to  be...Anyway  will  give  him  time  till  I  am  settled  in  my  new  place...And  then  see  what  he  is  like...
Will   be  coming  to  Bombay  to  source  them  for  sure...
 Thanks  guys...

Hi  Nanu  yes  i  think  Mr  peter  diaz  is  only  one  of  the  few  lfs  who  does  have  some  sort  of  knowledge  but  yes  its  always  a  advisable  to  buy  your  fish  from  breeders...
I  was  just  speaking  to  Mr  Peter  as  i  was  reading  your  post  and  he  has  got  some  huge  discus  for  sale..u  may  wanna  check  them  out. But  as  mitul  said  dont  mix  small  and  big  ones  together..have  learnt  that  the  hard  way.

Ya  I  spoke  to  him  as  well  :-)
He  did  get  some  new  large  ones  but  now  I  will  be  looking  to  buy  only  at  the  end  of  the  month  or  so  when  I  have  my  new  tank  setup...
And  you  are  right  he  is  the  only  one  decent  here.
There  is  also  another  breeder  here  in  Pune  I  think  his  name  is  Ali.
I  have  been  to  his  place  to  see  some  of  his  stock.  He  has  a  lot  of  Pigeon  Bloods  last  time  I  was  there  but  the  color  of  the  fish  did  not  impress  me...
Can  I  come  and  have  a  look  at  your  setup  sometime  over  the  weekend  or  something..Would  love  to  get  tips  from  you  as  I  am  still  new  to  this...
I  want  a  Pair  of  Blue  Diamonds  but  will  have  to  wait...This  is  making  me  bankrupt...  :-)

Hi  Nanu  sounds  good  but  this  weekend  am  a  bit  occupied...
Well  i  can  give  you  all  the  advise,no  matter  how  limited  it  is   Very Happy
but  honestly  have  had  a  bad  experience  keeping  discus  in  planted  tanks  and  am  much  happy  with  the  bare  bottom  setup  i  have!
Ali  well  have  never  seen  any  of  his  discus  "breeding"  so  i  dont  know..but  yes  he  does  tend  to  stock  a  lot  of  pigeon  blood.
Am  keen  at  the  moment  to  sell  off  one  of  my  flower  horns  so  i  can  expand  my  discus  tank  a  bit
 Hamza
