I  have  6  neon  tetra  and  6  albino   cory  in  a  2.5*1.5*1.5  in  a  bare  bottom  tank  .  Planed  to  introduce  discus  soon  .  I  found  that  5  neon  chase  1  neon  and  they  nip  fins  .  5  neon  chase  only  one  particular  neon  .  What  will  be  the  reason  ?

 Hi,
I  too  had  exactly  same  number  of  neons  in  a  planted  setup  and  5  neons  were  chasing  and  nipping  fins  of  a  single  neon(6th  one).
Unfortunately  the  sixth  one  scummed  to  bullying  &  harassment  and  died...  Still  wondering  what  would  be  the  cause....
Let's  wait  for  the  experts  to  comment.....

 cheers
 Babu

One  reason  that  i  can  think  about  would  be  if  the  6th  guy  is  sick...

May  be  give  them  suffitient  hiding  places...  Moss  tank  would  be  ideal...

The  Neon  must  have  been  sick.  Fishes  try  to  nip  fins  or  disturb  a  sick  fish.

If  you  find  this  phenomenon,  try  to  isolate  that  fish  and  observe  for  symptoms  and  treat  accordingy.

Try  adding  another  batch  of  6  neons.  It  might  give  some  respite  to  the  6th  one.  I  would  have  suggested  more  considering  that  your  bioload  is  quite  low  but  since  you  are  opting  for  discus,  this  should  suffice.

yaap.  this  behaviour  is  noticed  esp  among  neon  tetra  by  instinct.  they  try  to  protect  their  school  from  the  diseased  ones  by  keeping  it  away.  so  try  to  isolate  the  harrased  one
