Nauzer  I  would  add  something  to  the  protos  here:

As  rightly  described'  the  'Fine  Tuning'  factor  is  unavoidable  most  of  the  times,  be  it  the  basic  air-driven  or  a  venturi  one  like  Prism.  It  is  much  easier  to  Tune  the  basic  skimmer,  merely  shifting  it  slightly  up  or  down  for  enabling  the  collection  cup  to  spit  out  only  the  froth.  But  when  the  counter  current  ones  are  used,  you  do  not  have  any  vertical  shift  options,  as  the  inlet  slots  are  also  used  for  the  surface  skimming.  A  good  solution  here  is  to  make  use  of  an  air-pump  with  a  variac,  so  as  to  adjust  the  output  air  into  the  reaction  chamber.  Hence  even  fine  tuning  is  possible  and  one  can  practically  make  the  most  of  the  limewood  diffuser,  even  when  it  begins  choking.

 Lovely  thread  Aquascapes!

Wanted  to  ask:  in  our  country,  where  power  cuts  are  quite  routine,  what  happens  to  the  sump  (in  the  case  where  it  is  placed  under  the  main  tank)?  would  it  overflow  due  to  the  syphon?

 Hi  spongebob,

To  avoid  overflow  in  the  sump  we  use  a  overflow  box  which  does  not  allow  the  main  tank  to  empty  out,  Also  using  a  overflow  box  you  dont  have  to  worry  about  main  tank  overflowing  due  to  excess  water  being  pumped  back  from  the  sump.

Ok  guys  sorry  for  the  long  wait!
the  third  skimmer  in  the  line  is  the  internal  power  skimmer/turbo  skimmer:
 advantages:
#1  -  It  is  more  effective  compared  to  the  airpowered  skimmers
#2  -  The  reaction  chamber  might  have  foam  fractioners  (some  might  even  have  high  speed  needle  wheels)  in  them  to  effectively  break  the  air  into  very  fine  bubbles  for  effective  break-up  of  proteins.
 dis-advantages:
#1  -  The  most  important  drawback  is  that  it  is  an  internal  skimmer  so  for  smaller  set-ups  with  no  sump  this  kind  of  a  skimmer  often  becomes  a  lot  of  technological  clutter  in  prominent  view.
#2  -  Being  powered  by  a  powerhead  it  has  the  disadvantage  of  not  getting  water  from  the  surface  of  the  tank  (unless  of  course  if  the  power  head  is  attached  with  a  surface  extractor)  and  the  maximum  amount  of  proteins  float  on  the  surface  of  the  water.
#3  -  The  reaction  chamber  is  often  shorter  so  the  water  remains  in  contact  with  the  air  bubbles  for  a  short  period  of  time.
#4  -  Requires  a  lot  of  fine  tuning  for  efficient  working  and  effective  results.

Note:  as  seen  in  the  below  diagram  #3  the  internal  power  skimmer  lacks  the  needle  wheels  and  can  be  less  effective  than  the  ones  which  are  termed  turbo  skimmers  as  shown  and  explained  in  the  diagram  #4  (comming  up  shortly)
