What  is  this  Agenda  all  about???   ROFL

Ok....  here  I  am.....  Tirthankar....  Another  Bengali  in  this  hobby.  Staying  at  Gurgaon  for  my  Job.  Married  with  a  partial  peaceful  lady  who  started  to  give  me  divorce  warning  for  my  hobby.  Crying or Very sad

I  had  2  Planted  tanks.  I  sold  off  the  3  feeter  and  building  up  another  big  tank.  As  off  now  I  have  only  a  25  G  Planted  tank  and  2  Betta  Bowls  live  and  up.

Since  my  childhood  I  am  keeping  fresh  water  fishes  what  ever  I  got  from  pond  or  local  river  in  a  small  cement  tank.   Very Happy  But  I  never  tried  to  know  the  generic  name  for  them  cause  there  was  no  resources  to  get  the  names  in  my  native  village.  Smile

Since  childhood  I  kept,  Dog  (He  was  a  mixed  breed  of  German  Spitz  and  Wild  Wolf),  fishes,  pond  tortoise,  Beji  (Don't  know  the  english  name.  They  are  famous  for  there  snake  killing  skills.),  Frogs  etc  etc.   Smile

 Tirthankar,

It'd  be  hard  to  find  a  mongoose  that  wouldn't  laugh  at  this  terminology  -  Beji.  For  a  moment,  I  was  wondering  whether  this  was  with  reference  to  some  exotic  fish  from  China  (specifically  from  Beijing.....shortened  to  Beji).  I  do  certainly  fit  the  subject  of  this  thread.  As  my  pseudonym  suggests,  I  was  born  in  the  year  Neil  Armstrong  landed  on  the  moon  and  worked  for  the  MNC  that  made  the  soles  of  his  boots  (any  guesses?).  recently,  moved  to  another  MNC  that  sells  industrial  gases  (even  though,  I  continue  my  allegiance  to  the  age  old  yeast  fermentation  method  for  producing  CO2).  I  have  3  randomly  (and  heavily)  planted  freshwater  tanks  with  livebearers,  a  school  of  serpae  tetras,  a  lone  blackc  neon,  a  lone  blue  gourami,  a  lone  female  Betta  and  a  Botia  Modesta.  Except  the  regular  pruning  of  the  "Giant  hygrophilla"  and  the  weekly  water  change  (50%),  there's  not  much  I  do.  Flowers  bloom  regularly  and  the  fishes  die  once  they  are  older  than  the  driftwood.  I  also  have  a  smaller  tank  housing  a  lone  male  blue  morph.

My  daughter  loves  and  feeds  the  fishes  with  me  -  while  my  wife  keeps  herself  busy  with  her  potted  plants......I  live  in  Bangalore  -  and  my  guess  is  that  the  sheer  proximity  to  some  of  the  Gurus  of  the  fishkeeping  hobby  is  what  keeps  my  fishes  alive  and  algae  at  bay.

 Cheers,

 Arup

Thanks  Arup  to  provide  me  the  correct  name  for  Beji.  In  my  native  place  mongoose  is  not  hard  to  find.  I  got  a  baby  and  it  was  there  with  me  for  a  long  time.  By  nature  they  are  not  so  desent  and  furnished  with  deadly  teeth  and  nails.  But  if  you  can  manage  to  spend  some  time  with  them  and  try  to  interact  with  their  needs,  they  will  become  a  really  nice  pet.  I  had  a  bad  luck  that  one  morning  I  found  him  ran  away  to  join  his  native  brothers  and  sisters.   Chuckle

I  am  staying  in  Bangalore  with  my  wife  and  kid.  Parents  visit  often.  Have  one  planted  tank  and  two  ponds.  Main  hobby  is  nature  photography  and  aquarium  is  a  side  interest  (mainly  in  rainy  season  when  going  out  becomes  difficult  Smile  )
Kept  fishes  from  class  two  to  class  ten  after  which  I  had  to  giveup  because  of  hostel  education.  Started  again  in  2005  when  I  moved  in  my  own  apartment.  My  wife  loves  the  fishes..  but  get  bugged  with  the  number  of  ponds  and  different  small  and  big  tubs  in  the  balcony  in  which  I  experiment  with  different  plants.  My  kid  (6  months  old)  just  get  mesmerized  looking  at  the  fishes.

current  interest  is  growing  aquatic  plants  emersed.

fishes  are  a  mixed  lot  with  dennisoni,  cardinals,  SAE,  molly,  rosy  barbs,  guppies  etc.

Hi,  I  am  Arnab  Roy  chowdhury  from  Bangalore.   I  was  brought  up  in  Andhra  Pradesh  in  a  small  town  called  Vijayawada  (famous  for  its  railway  station)  and  then  spent  a  good  7  years  1993-2000  in  Kolkata  (currently  planning  to  go  back  to  Kolkata  again).   Currently  I  stay  in  Bangalore  (Viveknagar  area,  quite  near  to  Mayur's  place).   I  was  hooked  to  fishes  right  from  childhood  till  my  school  days  (right  from  goldfishes  and  mollies  in  jars  and  a  small  aquarium  that  I  had  to  keeping  singi,  magur,  and  lata  in  earthen  pots  and  in  one  old  cement  tankin  the  backyard)  but  stopped  keeping  them  as  my  parents  did  not  like  the  ever  growing  number  of  fishes.   Currently,  I  again  started  around  1  year  back  with  2  small  10  G  planted  tanks  and  a  couple  of  betta  bowls  (planning  to  upgrade  the  tanks  to  a  50  G  at  least).   I  am  also  interested  in  trying  to  keep  fishes  in  cement  tanks  that  you  get  on  the  hosur  road  (originally  meant  for  keeping  plants)  which  is  my  current  project.   I  am  married  and  my  condition  is  somewhat  similar  to  T2CHATTO's....  Smile  Its  great  to  see  so  many  bengalis  in  this  hobby.   I  will  make  it  a  point  to  visit  Galif  St.  when  I  visit  Kol  next  time.

@T2CHATTO..  how  did  you  manage  to  breed  a  spitz  with  a  wild  wolf??  where  did  you  get  that  wolf  from??

 and  one  more  thing..

Guys  you  must  visit  Atanus  blogsite  to  check  out  some  wonderful  wildlife  photographs..  they  are  just  mindblowing..

Hi  Guys  sorry  for  butting  in.

But  just  couldn't  control  my  excitement  on  seeing  that  we  have  somebody  with  formal  training  in  fish.

Hi  Gautam  and  welcome.  Hope  to  see  you  around  more  often.

Hi  Arnab  da,  I  got  the  dog  from  my  Uncle.  He  took  his  parents  from  Germany  and  breed  them  here.  Actually  his  parents  were  the  direct  breed  of  Spitz  and  Wolf,  and  he  was  the  Bi  product.   Chuckle
