 Hi  All,

Getting live  blood  worms  as  feed  for  my  fish.  Â few  queries  that  I  have  are

 1.  I  guess  I  will  be  geeting  good  stuff  but  how  do  I  clean  the  worms  before  feeding  them?  Should  I  use  some  anti  bacterial  medicine  to  clean  them?
 2.  Can  the  excess  feed  be  freezed  and  fed  later?  If  yes,  for  how  long  can  the  worms  be  freezed  and  is  there  any  tihng  I  need  to  add  before  doing  so?

 Regards,
 Surya

Are  you  sure  you  are  getting  live  blood  worms.
We  will  be  waiting  to  meet  your  source.  Smile
Keep  them  in  a  large  bucket  with  plenty  of  strong  aeration.
Get  some  to  ASK  for  identification  on  Sunday.
Forget  about  freezing  if  you  are  getting  a  regular  supply.
There  are  enough  regular  takers  for  live  bloodworm's  in  Bangalore.
 Enjoy.

i'd  recommend  you  culture  your  own  worms...they  do  carry  diseases  and  you  should  be  careful  about  what  you  feed  your  fish...

Let  see  Trevor,  if  its  really  what  it  is  then  wouldnt  mind  sharing  the  same  with  you  guys,  i.e  if  you  all  are  meeting  at  ASK  on  Sunday.

Just  give  us  the  source  of  your  bloodworm's.  We  will  be  at  his  door.     Smile
That  is  if  it  is  bloodworm's  not  worms  in  blood.  ROFL   ROFL
I  hope  your  source  is  reliable.
The  last  three  consignments  of  Bloodworm's  from  Chennai  came  with  them  all  dead  and  an  aroma  filled  the  complete  neighborhood.

 Hi  Surya,

If  you  have  found  a  source  of  blood  worms  in  Bangalore  you  would  have  done  a  great  service  to  us  live  food  feeders.

Like  Trevor  said  if  they  are  blood  worm  we  will  be  at  the  door  step  of  your  source  at  5.00am  in  the  morning.  So  do  not  worry  about  you  getting  them.  Get  them  to  ASK  on  sunday  and  let  us  ID  them.  Smile

The  blood  worms  Trevor  refered  to  ,  we  had  to  go  at  7.00am  on  sunday's  to  kalasipalyam  and  collect  it  .

 Regards,
 Nayak.

Atleast  1-2  years  back,  I  used  to  regularly  get  something  in  the  name  of  "live  worms"  from  2  shops  (atleast  3-4  days  a  week).     I  assumed  that  there  were  blood  worms.   Aren't  they?   Ofcourse  there  was  this  issue  of  the  worms  carrying  disease  and  it  could  not  be  stored  for  more  than  24-36  hours  (atleast  I  couldn't).     Now  I  use  Hikari  frozen  blood  worms,  as  I  don't  want  to  take  risk  with  my  fronts.     The  live  worms  I  got  from  LFS  looked  similar  to  Hikari  blood  worms  in  frozen  form.

 Cheers,
 Jai

 Hi  Surya:

Live  blood  worms  are  a  bit  tricky  to  deal  with  just  like  any  other  live  feed.  They  are  usually  delivered  as  clean  worms  but  in  most  cases  you  will  find  other  charecters  like  bugs  and  lernia  or  any  external  paracite.  Care  should  be  taken  while  you  feed  them.  At  first  please  reinse  them  with  clean  water.  See  if  there  are  dead  worms.  Dead  worms  usually  turn  pale  white  as  soon  as  they  are  dead.  If  you  find  too  many  of  them,  you  might  want  to  use  a  fish  net  and  filter  the  dead  ones.  This  might  take  a  long  time.  First  you  will  have  to  get  a  net  and  put  the  blood  worms  in  it  and  hang  it  on  a  bucket  or  any  water  source  in  such  a  way  that  only  a  little  part  of  the  net  it  touching  the  water  surface.  This  way  all  the  live  worms  would  wriggle  down  the  net  while  the  dead  ones  will  remain  in  the  net.

This  process  has  to  be  repeated  2  or  3  times  until  you  get  clean  blood  worms.  This  is  a  very  long  process  and  you  will  need  a  lot  of  patience.  Once  this  is  done,  please  take  as  much  worms  you  will  need  for  one  or  2  days  and  then  put  the  remaining  in  a  plastic  bag  that  we  use  to  pack  fish  and  flatten  it.  keep  it  in  the  freezer  and  that  will  stay  good  for  atleast  10  days.   Keep  the  remaining  worms  in  a  bucket  with  plenty  of  fresh  water  and  keep  this  bucket  aireated   well.  This  water  should  be  changes  twice  daily  atleast  to  keep  them  alive  for  atleast  3  days.  Disinfecting  the  worms  before  feeding  them  is  at  your  own  discretion.  I  dont  anyway.

 Venket,

I  remember  reading  discussions  on  how  to  clean  tubifex  worms  using  Potassium  Permanganate  solution,  can't  that  be  used  for  blood  worms?
