if you want to feed your fishes with live food and cannot go to the market regularly, well i've got the alternative.
you could feed fruitflies to them(found usually flying over uncovered bananas)
for making a fruitfly trap:
1.cut a 2 litre plastic bottle into halves(preferably the base should be slightly more than top).
2.place a small piece of banana into the bottle.
3.invert and place the top portion of the bottle into the basal portion
4.make sure there is no gap in between.you could place a strip of paper in between to cover up the gap.
5.now into the mouth of the bottle roll and place a strip of paper(roll into a thin pipe form)
6.the flies will get attracted by the smell and somehow enter the bottle.
7.but they won't know how to get out.
go!let your fishes enjoy a new meal!!!
How to feed the fishes, I tried this with small butterflies/moths(for oscars) and ants for small fishes, but when we throw them on water surface they are capable to fly or crawl out of there. when they are in bulk it looks a mess with so many insects near and in the tank.
Feeding butterflies to oscars, jaguars or FHs is very thrilling to watch, I used to drop them on water surface and cover the tank with mosquito net with no gap for the insect to exit, the insect would fly around in there, oscar and jaguar used to chase the butterfly around and jumped out to grab it, many times they had to work hard to catch their prey.
