Hi,  I  have  2  blue  discus  that  are  covered  with  white  spots  on  the  tail  fins.  I  am  not  sure  why  this  has  happened.  The  water  params  seem  to  be  fine  and  the  water  temp  is  at  30C.  How  do  I  get  rid  of  the  white  spots?  Also,  the  fish  do  not  seem  to  be  eating  as  well  as  they  used  to  in  the  past.  I  have  them  in  a  separate  tank  from  now,  away  from  the  other  2  healthy  discus.  Can  you  please  suggest  how  I  should  go  about  treating  this?  Thanks.

Which  water  parameters  seem  to  be  fine??
Always  provide  more  information,  like  tank  size,  size  of  the  discus,  water  change  schedule,  feed  type  and  frequency,  filtration,  etc.

The  reason  for  all  this  is  that  we  like  to  find  out  the  root  of  the  problem  and  eliminate  it,  and  not  just  'treat'  the  symptoms.

By  looking  at  your  pics,  the  fish  look  ok,  no  white  spots  are  visible,  if  you  are  still  skeptical  though,  do  not  put  any  medicine  in  the  tank,  just  raise  the  water  temperature  with  in  a  couple  of  days  to  32degrees  and  keep  it  there  for  around  a  fortnight,  if  its  ich,  it  will  go  away.

 regards,
 amod.

you  could  try  adding  a  small  amount  of  salt  to  speed  up  the  process.  i  would  not  recomment  using  any  medicines.

I  have  effectively  used  Epsom  salt  (  30  grams  for  500  lts)  as  a  dosage  for  my  Discus.  Repeated  the  dosage  in  relative  proportions  for  every  water  change.
Total  dosage  has  been  for  a  week  &  have  found  good  results.
Also,  i  have  avoided  any  simultaneous  medication.

I  have  quarantined  the  one  which  had  white  spots  in  a  10  gallon  tank,  and  have  been  treating  it  with  Azoo's  Magic  Disease  Cure.  The  white  spots,  whatever  they  were,  seem  to  have  disappeared.  Still,  I  will  keep  it  separate  for  another  day  or  two  before  putting  it  back  in  the  main  tank.
I've  been  going  through  discus  forums  on  other  websites  as  well,  and  I  keep  comming  across  2  medicines  -  metronidazole  and  prazi  pro.  By  what  common  names  are  these  drugs  available  in  India?
 Thanks  for  all  the  replies.

I  am  well  aware  the  above  mentioned  medicines  are  not  meant  for  treating  white  spots.  All  I  want  to  know  is  by  what  names  they  are  available  here.

Prazi  pro  is  a  brand  name  itself  and  is  not  avl  in  india..  and  the  active  ingredient  is  Praziquantel.  and  some  other  brandname  it  should  be  avl  only  at  select  medical  shops  and  i  wouldnt  know..  as  mine  i  order  from  sg.

And  regarding  metronidazole  the  brand  name  is  Flagyl.  avl  at  all  leading  medical  stores...

 Hope  this  helps...

After  treating  the  discus  with  azoo's  magic  disease  treater  for  3  days  I  put  it  back  in  the  main  tank.  It  is  looking  much  better  and  eating  normally.  The  white  spots  have  disappeared.  It  has  also  become  more  aggressive  than  before!  Thanks  for  all  the  replies.
