 Dear  All,

Just  want  to  know  whether  applying  Rid-All  Anti  Itch  (Blue  Colored)  and  Rid  All  General  Aid  (Green  Color)  kills  the  beneficial  bacteria  (  Nitrosomonas  &  Nitrobacter)  in  the  Aquarium.

 Thanks.
 Deba..

not  at  all.  i  use  the  rid  all  general  aid  as  a  tonic  sometimes  when  i  change  water  and  it  reduced  the  incidence  of  ich  in  my  aquarium  quite  a  bit.

Of  course  it  will,  it  is  nothing  else  but  a  diluted  version  of  methylene  blue.

Sure,  due  to  its  diluted  form,  and  then  further  addition  to  the  large  volume  of  the  aquarium,  it  might  be  'bearable'  for  the  filter,  but  in  theoretical  terms,  it  will  definitely  not  do  any  good.

Firstly,  it  is  not  a  tonic,  and  please  do  not  add  it  without  any  purpose  to  the  tank,  its  like  unnecessarily  adding  salt  to  'boost'  the  fish.

Remember  ich  is  ONLY  trigerred  in  the  case  of  1)stress  and  2)sudden  drop\change  in  water  parameters,  especially  temperature.  Also,  if  you  keep  on  adding  it  to  your  water,  there  is  quite  likely  a  chance  of  a  resistant  strain  developing..

 Yes  It  is  methylene  blue.

And  fully  agree  with  Amod.  Don't  use  Medicine  in  a  regular  basis.  Use  them  only  when  it  is  required.  And  if  you  can  maintain  water  parameters  including  Temparature,  I  don't  think  you  have  to  use  any  medicine  ever.  Smile

Methylene  blue  is  toxic,  thats  why  it  kills  the  beneficial  bacteria.
And  since  rid-all  and  similar  products  are  methylene  blue..  as  per  above.

Since  when  do  you  believe  everything  written  on  aquarium  products??

Read  my  post  carefully,  "  due  to  its  diluted  form,  and  then  further  addition  to  the  large  volume  of  the  aquarium,  it  might  be  'bearable'  for  the  filter,  but  in  theoretical  terms,  it  will  definitely  not  do  any  good.  "
So,  concluding,  it  is  definitely  not  any  good  to  the  beneficial  bacteria.
