 It  is  really  not  black  discus  but  just  a  darker  shade  of  brown.  Few  years  back  we  had  the  wild  snakeskin  discus  too.
 There  are  quite  a  few  natural  hybrids  appearing  for  the  past  few  years  so  these  "discoveries"  should  be  taken  with  a  pinch  of  salt!

 IMO,  the  fish  appears  dark  /  black  due  to  the  stress.  Just  look  at  the  tail.

 This  fish  was  found  on  one  of  the  recent  expeditions  if  I  am  not  mistaken,  I  think  there  was  also  a  new  species  or  strain  of  the  neon  tetra  found  on  the  same  trip.  I  think  there  is  a  link  floating  around  regarding  all  this  and  more  on  the  trip  that  was  undertaken...
