 Hi,
I  have  just  started  another  small  tank  18  inch  *15  inch  *12  inch(h).  What  is  the  best  option  for  my  light  source.  I  am  looking  for  PLL  or  CFL  option.  Is  their  any  other  option  available  in  the  Bangalore  market  for  me   for  this  size  of  the  tank  ?

Plants  are  E.  parvula  and  HC  which  I  guess  will  be  light  demanding.  Water  colummn  height  is  around  8  inches.

I  am  using  a  plant  substrate  made  by  oceanfree.  Not  able  to  gather  much  information  on  the  net  regarding  the  substrate.  Any  people  who  have  used  the  substrate  before  please  comment.

Also  anybody  who  is  willing  to  sell  a  ready  made  PLL  or  CFL  fixture  for  this  size  of  the  tank,  please  pm  me  a  quote.

2  CFLs  will  be  enough  with  a  total  power  around  30  watts.  You  can  easily  make  a  simple  boxlike  plywood  fixture  for  that.

 Hi  Atanu,

Just  curious  as  to  what  filteration  you  have  chosen  for  that  small  aquarium.

If  you  go  on  with  3W/g  you  may  need  CO2  or  equivalent  suppliments,so  what  have  you  chosen?
About  the  canopy  if  you  are  not  a  busy  person, with  time  to  spare  please  go  thru  this, you  may  find  it  interesting  to  make  yours  own  Smile  http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6579

Good  luck  with  your  new  project  Thumb Up

 Regards,
 Saikumar.

 Hi  Saikumar,
I  intend  it  to  be  heavily  planted  with  very  low  bio  load  without  any  other  kind  of  filtration. My  5  feeter   runs  very  well  with  plants  and  heavy  bio  load  even  though  I  shut  down  the  2217(which  anyway  is  not  sufficient  for  the  5  feeter).  I  intend  to  put  one  small  power  head  just  for  water  circulation.  Pressurized  Co2  is  through  a  glass  flower  type  ceramic  disc  diffuser  which  will  be  sitting  just  below  the  power  head.  Water  change  every  third  day  without  any  dosing.

Yes  I  am  also  thinking  of  taking  Hamza's  opinion  and  putting  just  two  cfls  for  the  time  being..and  see  how  it  goes.

 Regards

 Hi  attanu

Instead  of  CFLs  look  at  PLLs,  the  reason  for  me  to  be  suggeting  this  is  as  your  water  volume  is  small  it  will  heat  up  water  fairly  quickly,  Personally  I  have  seen  Cfls  generate  more  heat  than  Plls.
With  Plls  you  can  get  then  in  11w  and  use  three  of  them  with  different  kelvin  ranges.
There  is  one  other  option  regular  T5s  which  are  avilable  in  8W,  they  generate  very  low  heat  and  come  in  compact  units.  You  could  use  4  of  these  since  the  height  is  only  8  inches  penetration  will  not  be  an  issue.

 Hope  this  helps.

 Regards
   Harshal
