My name is Ajay and am an HR professional working in the IT Sector.
My interest towards fish and later fish keeping started with catching fish with a DIY fishing rod as a kid and have been a committed hobbyist since last 14 years.
This is my first in an aquarium forum and was introduced to this forum a few days back when I met an IAH member at Bheemeshwari (Cauvery Fishing camp) catching fish with an aquarium net.
My interest lie in particularly keeping snakeheads (hence the nickname "channidae") - have 6 different species/ sub-species Apart from these amazing creatures, cichlids, catfish and loaches interest me.
Overall I have 10 tanks of different shapes and sizes...

Hi I'm Saji Abraham, an advertising professional working in Bombay. I had an aquarium when I was in school but that petered off. Now I have just got one for my son and find myself fulfilling my childhood desire of keeping a large aquarium!
I'm a complete amateur at this but am willing to learn fast. Looking forward to enriching my knowledge and aquarium with the help of this forum.

Hi, I'am Chiranjith from Bangalore. I am a software engineer by profession. I started a linking for aquariums 15 Yrs back. I started off with a 15 gallon tank with all kinds of tropical fish. Initially many of my fishes died n i was pretty sad.. I had spent most of my pocket money on the fishes. Only a few Gouramis survived for long... Couple of years later even they died and it put an end to my aquarium hobby, at least for a while.
Couple of months back, the feeling of having an aquarium started again. I bought a 55 gallon tank and some pairs of Red Tiger Oscars & Albino Oscars. I loved those Oscars... but alas! I started quickly loosing one by one fish... The fishes started to develop white patches, stopped eating, stay stagnent & finally died. After doing lot of search on the web, i came to know that it was the Neon Tetra Diesease & there was no medication.
But the death of all my Oscars didnt demotivate my interest in fishes... I got more interested in fish keeping...
Recently i bought a 155 Gallon tank & i have decorated it with lot of rocks. I am keeping only Lake Malawi Cichlids in it... Now i spend most of my free time watching them... They are beautful...

Hello to all the IAH members.
I am Arnab with old roots in Kolkata and presently establishing new ones in Bangalore (since 2004). I have been lurking for a while and reading different posts in this forum. Sorry about the late introduction. I will make up for it with quantity :-D
I am interested in nature in general and like to be in natural surroundings or at least have some pets around to keep things lively. Maintaining an aquarium has always interested me but somehow never managed to get going in that area (2 rabbits, 1 turtle, various birds and plenty of potted plants but no fish).
This situation was remedied recently as i plunged into this fascinating hobby as recently as Nov 2007. First to come in was a betta which fascinated me as I was making inquiries at various LFS about starting a 55-60 lts tank setup. Read up a bit about bettas, cursed the LFS guy who told me that the 1 lt bowl was more than enough, trans located the poor chap to a 5 lts bowl and proceeded to obtain three more of its brethren obviously in different bowls. All of them seem to be happy with one giant mint, weekly 100% water change (blows up their bubble nest within an hour of each water change) and one feed per day.
Meanwhile, the 55 lts tank was cycled using few guppies and one pleco. All these fishes are still thriving. (This setup was obtained from a different LFS and the owner seems to be very helpful.)
The tank details are:
Tank size 2' X 1' X 1' (55 lts)
Light: 1 X 25 W CFL (Approx 8hrs per day)
Heater: 300 W (Temp maintained at 28 C)
Filter: 1 X 800 lts/hr HOB
One airstone and one thermometer completes the hardware of the setup.
Substrate consists of sand(looks like river sand) provided by LFS.
Decoration: A few colored pebbles, two Java Moss covered rocks.
Plants and grass completes the natural decoration. (I do not know the names of the plants except giant mint, java moss). Nothing dramatic.
Fishy inhabitants are:
8 X Guppy (mixed bunch)
4 X Zebra Danio (neon)
7 X Sword Tail (mixed bunch)
7 X Neon Tetra
Algae tackling crew
1 X Pleco
2 X CAE
2 X Shrimp (glass?)
1 X Golden Apple Snail
The Pleco will go back to the LFS as the fellow seems to be snacking on the leaves. The CAEs were obtained recently as a replacement.
I know, I know, the tank is badly over stocked (Although the tetras are little more than fry).
Plans for the near future: A 2' X 1' X 1.5' (85 lts) will be in this weekend and hopefully the cycling will be completed by mid Feb 2008. I will use some of the existing tank's gravel, rock and the pleco.
The tetras will be shifted to the bigger tank once it is ready. Finally the Guppies, Danios and Sword Tails will stay in the 55 lts tank and the 85lts tank will be an all tetra tank. I have decided on neons, lemons and rummy noses and will stay within 25.
I promise to update pictures on a regular basis.
Well, that's me, a little too talkative. Hope that people did not get too bored. :-)
Cheers to all IAH members as well as their pals (aquatic and otherwise)

Hi Friends of the fish,
I am Sumant. Call me TIMS. Born and brought up in Chandigarh, living in Bombay since the past 14 yrs. Im a chef by profession. I love most pets. Dogs and Fish are prime. In this hobby since the past 20 yrs. I still remember, standing outside an aquarium shop, at the age of 10, crying and pulling my dad's hand, "please buy me a fishtank".........it took about a year to convince my folks. Since then, i never looked back. At present. I have 3 fishtanks.....
1) A 450 L, 6 footer, community, heavily planted tank. Extremely proud of it.
2) A 2.5 footer with a 1.5 year old 12" pearl arowana (i know i need to get a bigger tank. trying to convince wifey)
3) A 2.5 footer with an 8 your old red ear slider. I had 4 in a 5 footer earlier but gave them away as they were getting aggressive and biting each others' nose off.
Im too much into planted tanks. It's all DIY. My six footer has two 75watt MH lamps, a 1500 l/hr canister filter, and a 2500 l/hr power head connected to my home made undergravel filter. and 300 plants. Going to introduce a DIY co2 set by next week.
Well, that's me. Need to know anything else, then please feel free to e-mail me. If you need to contact me, then I can give you my hand phone no. via e-mail.
