 Hi  Everyone,

After  reading  BETA's  article  (old)  on  almond  tree  leaves  for  conditioning  of  water  was  just  wondering  whether  the  almond  leaves  also  reduce  the  harmful  traces  of  chlorine  in  the  water.
Aging  of  the  water  for  a  day  enough  ???

Experts  and  fellow  members  please  advise.

 Thanks
 Rgds.

 Supra

 Dear  supra
Almond  leaves  are  used  by  tropical  fish  farm  breeders  and  fish  hobbyist  to  create  brackish  water  or  k-water  extract  to  promote  healing  and  breeding  for  tropical  fishes,  such  as  Guppies,  Betas,  Arowanas,  Tetras,  etc.
Beside  creating  a  natural  environment  and  induces  spawning,  it  also  controls  or  reduces  the  PH  level  of  water,  thus  it  is  also  one  of  the  best  aquarium  water  conditioner  .  They  are  known  to  have  antibacteria,  antifungal,  stress  relieve  and  immune  boosting  properties  for  all  tropical  fishes  too.
Simply  rinse  them  with  tap  water  before  putting  them  into  your  aquarium  tank.  After  1-2  days  the  leaves  will  be  water-logged  and  sink.  This  will  leave  a  strong  brown  dye  that  will  tan  the  water  slightly  (to  a  clear  amber)  and  provide  a  very  natural  stream-bottom  look  to  your  aquarium.  This  dye  consists  of  tanic  acid  and  other  organic  materials  that  emulates  the  natural  environment  of  most  tropical  fishes.  Remove  the  leaves  from  the  tank  after  10  days.
One  more  precautions  donot  over  doses/stocked  it  because  its  tanin  can  lower  the  pH  to  a  non  sustainable  level.
 Regards
 Kaushik

Please  stop  this  cut  and  paste  job.  Cutting  Edit  from  the  internet  and  pasting  it  on  IAH  is  not  accepted.  This  member  is  a  disgrace  to  the  country  and  should  be  banned.  An  mature  educated  member  I  wonder.  Administrators  please  wake  up  and  take  action.
 Just  my  personal  opinion.

Oh  come  on  guys,  this  kinda  thing  happens  to  the  most  of  us,  during  those  times  when  we  are  just  unable  to  control  the  laziness  pangs,  but  still  want  to  help.  But  still  copying  and  pasting  copyright  material  is  not  good.  Thing  to  do  is  to  learn  from  the  mistake  and  not  do  it  again.  Whats  with  the  whole  banning  thing  anyways?  Peace.

Are  you  being  a  little  harsh  there?  What  would  be  next?

 But  jokes  aside,
Dr  Kaushik,  please  provide  an  appropriate  link  or  type  in  your  own  comments.

Back  to  topic,  Almond  leaves  will  not  remove  chlorine.  Strong  aeration  for  a  day  or  hypo  is  the  best  way  to  do  so.

Almond  leaves  cannot  make  the  water  salty  or  remove  chlorine.
It  reduces  the  PH  of  the  water  and  is  used  by  many  of  us  during  fish  breeding  or  transporting  fish.
It  makes  a  mess  in  the  tank  and  is  so  usually  used  in  bare  tanks.
The  leaf  is  also  used  as  a  cover  for  shy  breeding  fish  in  bare  tanks.  Chuckle
